Description

A. BAYARDI.
BRACELET.
APPucArloN man MAY 22, 1920.
Patented Oct. 26, 1920.
TTOQ/VEY UNITED STA-TES 'ARMAND BAYARDI, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
' `Application filed May 22,
To all whom it' may concern.'
Be it known that I, ARMAND BAYARDI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi` cago, in the county of Cook and Statel of lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in `Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to jewelry and more particularly to articulated' ornaments such as bracelets, necklaces andthe like.
The principal obj ect of the invention is to provide a chain composed of flat links for y use as a bracelet or necklace the links or sections of which are so connected as to be practically unbreakable under ordinary strains and yet may be decorated to produce an ornamental appearance.
Another object is to construct such a bracelet of blocks of metal, glass, onyx or other material flexibly connected and yet strong and durable and in which the individual blocks or sections may be easily removed and replaced when desired.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l represents a perspective view of one of the blocks or sections constituting a part of this invention.
Fig. 2 isa similar view of one of the fiat doubled leaved links of the articulated connector forming a party of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a portion of a completed article.
Fig. 4 isa detail view with parts broken out. n
Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4, and
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a portion of a bracelet constructed in accordance with this invention.
In the embodiment illustrated a plurality of sections l are connected by an articulated connector 5 shown clearly in Fig. 4. Each of these sections 1 comprises a base 2 having upstanding side walls or flanges 3 the inner faces of which are grooved longitudinally intermediate their width at 4 for a purpose presently to be described. The base of each section is shown cut out at 2a, said cut out Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct,

portion beingdesigned to receive gems or other suitable decorative elements (not shown). 4
Each of the flat double leaved links 5is constructed as shown ink Fig. 2 beingcomeATENT f clerics.
yze, 1920. i
posed of two substantially rectangular plates 6 and 7 formed of anysuitable metal connected at one end by a neck as 8. These plates G and 7 have cut out portions 9, the outer end edges of which are rectilinearas shown at l0. When the leaves or plates 6 and 7 are folded in operativeposition one over the other as shown in Fig. 3 the cut out portions 9 register and the neck 8 is bent to form a loop 11. This loop 11 is engaged with the straight edges of the outer end members of the plates 6 and 7 having a threaded connection therewith as is shown clearly in Fig. 3. 5 it will be obvious that a very strong connection between them is effected and yet they will be -sufficiently flexible for the purpose for which they are intended. When the leaves 6 and 7 of the links are arranged in lapped position the side edges thereof are flush with each other and are rectilinear throughout, the width of the plates corresponding tothe distance between the side walls of the grooves 4 of the sections l. Itl will thus be seen that the link plates or leaves may be slidably engaged with the grooves in the sections l as is shown clearly in Fig. 5 thereby connecting the sections 1 with each other and with the links of the chain. The chain links 5 are substantially of the same length as the length of the sections l so that when united the joints connecting said links will be arranged at the ends of the sections providing for the flexible connection of said sections and yet permitting them to be positioned in close proximity as is shown clearly in Fig. 3 andG.
The sections 1^ when connected by the chain formed of the united links 5 may bev decorated in any suitable manner and used for any purpose as a bracelet, a necklace, a watch fob or for any purpose 'for which it may be adapted, any suitable fastener (not shown) being used for securing the end links together.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claims may bemade in the By so uniting these links,
construction without departing Vjfrom the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages. i
What is claimed is:
l. An article of jewelry comprising ilexibly connected sections, each section having upstanding parallel longitudinally grooved side walls, and a connector for said sections having` means for slidable engagement with said grooves.
2. iin' article of jewelry comprising aplu. rality of sections joined in alinement by an articulated connector, the elements of said connector corresponding substantially in length to the length of the sections with their joints arranged at the ends of the secwidth to the distance between the inner walls oi said grooves.
SfAn article of jewelry composed ot a plurality of flexibly connected sections, each oit which comprises a base plate having upstanding sidewalls grooved longitudinallyY on their inner faces, and a connector for said sections having Vlinks `for entering` the grooves of said sections.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature hereto.Y Y
ARMAND BAYARDI.
