Description
Dec. 3, 1929. w. KUEHNER 1,738,106
BRACELET Filed Dec. 8, 1928 Patented Dec. 3, 1929 UNETED STATES WILHELM KUEHNER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND BRACELET Application filed December 8, 1928. Serial no. 324,739.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bracelets, and the primary object thereof is to provide a brace let of the flexible type which is of novel and improved construction and wherein the units are connected so to afford increased flexibility while still maintaining the same in assembled and aligned relation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bracelet wherein the units are assembled so as to impart an attractive, novel and unique appearance to the bracelet.
The invention still further aims to provide a simple and economical structure and one wherein the units can be easily and quick ly assembled.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a section on line 2--2 of Figure 1;
Figure 8 is a section on line of Fig;- ure 1. and
Figure t is a fragmentary bottom plan view.
in proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a pair of laterally spaced longitudinal side elements or members 1, are employed, which members are flexible or formed of flexible material, and may be of Wire rope, or link or chain construction, as preferred. As shown in Figure 3, the members are shown as of wire braid and may be of hollow or tubular formation in the interest of lightness.
A series of units 2 are employed, here shown as being: of elliptical or ovaloid form, although in this reg rd it to be expressly understood, that various shapes of units can be used without affecting the invention, such as diamond shape, rectangular, or the like.
The units are curved both longitudinally and transversely so as to conform to the wrist of the wearer and maybe, if desired orna- :iented with jewels, such as at 3, in. addition to the usual familiar surface ornamentation.
Each side of each unit is formed with a transverse lug or finger il, the lugs being, bent over the side members, or strands 1, so as to secure the units thereto. As shown in the drawings, the adjacent ends of the adj acentunits freely overlap so as to present a novel and continuous surface for the bracelet, and one which at the same time does not interfere with free flexibility of the bracelet.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the units are flexibly related by virtue of the flexibility of the side strands or members, and the bracelet can, due to the overlapping of the units, readily conform itself to the wrist of the we: rcr. The units in addition by virtue of their overlapping relation, serve to maintain the shape of the bracelet, and inutually assist in holding one another in position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- 1. A bracelet including a pair of spaced flexible side members and a series of plate-like units of concave-convex form in both cross and longitudinal section, said units having their adjacent ends overlapping and freely movable toward and away from one another, said units having lugs on their opposite sides and at the centers of said sides which. lugs are bent into engagement with the respective side members so as to provide for free relative flexing movement between the ends of the units and the side members.
A bracelet including a pair of spaced flexible side members an d a series of plate-like units of concave-convex form in longitudinal section, said units having their adjacent ends overlapping and freely movable toward. and away from one another, and means to connect said units to each of the side i'nembers to enable free relative flexing movement between the ends of the units and the side mem bers.
lfn testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
WILHELM KUEHNER.
