Description

I M. A LOOMIS. NECKTIE STRETCHER AND SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 9, 1916- Patented May15, 1917.
- gvwewfoz Qmif'ncoow MORRIS A. LOOMIS, OF GALLION, ALABAMA.
. NECKTIE STRETCI-IEB, AND SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1917.
Application filed June 9, 1916. Serial No. 102,722.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MoRRIs A. LooMIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gallion, in the county of Halo and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie Stretchers and Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a necktie stretcher and supporter and one of its objects is thepro- VISIOH of a devlce of time character, which shall be slmple, durable and eflicient, and
which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide a supporting member for supporting neckties and a clamping member for receiving the ends of the neckties whereby upon moving the clamping member from the supporting member, the neckties will be stretched to remove wrinkles and creases therefrom.
A further object of this invention is to provide rods secured to the clamping memher and to the supporting member, having their ends threaded to receive a turn buckle for moving the clamping member'away from the supporting member to stretch the neckties.
A still further object of this invention is to provide the clamping member constructed from a continuous piece of metal, being bent upon itself intermediate its ends and riveted together at a point adjacent the bend to form a resilient clamping arm, having its ends forked to receive a securing means for retaining the ends of the neckties between the arms of the clamping member.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the descrip tion proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combi nation and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a necktie stretcher and supporter, constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the supporting member,
Fig. 3 is atop member,
Fig.4 is a detail view illustrating the bent end of the supporting member to prevent neckties from slipping therefrom, and
Fig. 5 is a detail sectional View illustrating the means of securing the free end of thearm portions of the clamping member together.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a supporting member constructed of metal or other suitable material having each of its ends bent rearwardly upon itself to form hooks 2 and per edges rounded as illustrated at 3 for supporting neckties l of various kinds. The hooked ends ofthe supporting member 1 prevent the neckties from slipping or sliding 0H1 the ends of the member 1. A suitable hook 5 is riveted or otherwise secured intermediate the ends of the supporting member 1 for supporting said member to a hook or permanent object. A rod 6 is riveted or otherwise secured to the supporting member 1 intermediate its ends and depends clownwardly therefrom and has its lower end screw threaded to receive a turn buckle 7 A clamping member 8 constructed from a continuous piece of metal or other suitable material, is bent intermediate its ends upon itself and riveted together adjacent the bend thereof as illustrated-at 9 to form a pair of arms 10 and 11. The arm 11 'is bent outwardly as illustrated at 12 to form a resilient arm and has its free end forked to receive a bolt-13 carried by the free end of the arm 10. The bolt 13 is screwthreaded to receive a wing nut 14 for clamping the free ends of the arms 10 and 11 together. A rod 15 is riveted or otherwise secured to the arm 10 intermediate its ends and is provided with its end screw-threaded to be re ceived by the turn buckle 7 By rotating the buckle 7, the clamping member 8 will be moved toward and from the supporting member 1.
In operation, the resilient arm 11 of the clamping member 8 is released from the arm 10 and a plurality of neckties are suspended over the supporting member 1 and have their free ends positioned between the arms 10 and 11 and by securing the free end of the resilient arm 11 to the free end of the arm 10, the ends of the neckties will be effiplan view of the clamping has its up-- ciently clamped to the clamping member 8. Then by turning or rotating the turn buckle 7, the clamping member 8 will be moved away from the supporting member 1 to stretch the neckties to remove all wrinkles and creases therefrom.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A necktie stretcher and supporter comprising a supporting member having its ends bent rearwardly upon itself to prevent neckties from slipping therefrom, said member having its upper edge rounded to support neckties, a rod secured to said member, a hook secured to said member, a turn buckle threaded to said rod, a clamping member for receiving the ends of the neckties, a rod secured to the clamping member and to the turn buckle to operatively con- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for nect the clamping member to the supporting member whereby upon rotation of the turn buckle the clamping member will be moved away from the supporting member to stretch the neckties. 1
2. A necktie stretcher and supporter comprising a supporting member a turn buckle connected to said supporting member, a clamping member being bent rearwardly upon itself intermediate its ends forming a pair of relatively spaced arms, means for securing one of said arms to'the turn buckle, a rivet passed through the arms at a point adjacent the bend of the clamping member, one of said arms bent outwardly from the other of said arms and provided with its end forked, and clamping means carried by the other arm to be received by the forked end of the resilient arm to clamp the ends of neckties between said arms.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence oftwo witnesses.
