Description

0. w. WALLIS.
GARMENT SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 11, 1908.
Patented 0011.6, 1908.
INVENTO/e Aftorncy VVITNE CHARLES WILLIAM WALLIS, OF Los ANGEL'ES, CALIFORNIA.
GARMENT-SUPPORTELR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 6, 1908.
Application-filed June 11, 1908. Serial No. 437,984.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. WA LIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of .California, have invented" 'certain new and useful Im rovements in Garment- Sup porters; and I o hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
improvements in garment hangers especially designed for holding trousers, skirts, etc., to prevent the same from wrinkling.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention 1s illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hanger. perspective vieW of one of the clasps for holdmg the garment. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through the telescoping sections of the hanger, and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional .yiew through the clamp fastened to. one of the sections.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A and A designate two of the sectlons of the hanger which are hollow, the latter' telescoping within the former and guided in its longitudinal movements by'means 'of an eye B which projects from the section A and extends through an elongated slot 0 formed in the section A. Fastened to one end of the section A is a wire D which encircles the section and is bent to form an eye D.
E designates a hook having one end bent to form an eye E, and F designates a flat resilient band or strap of any suitable metal, the ends of which engage the loops G and G, the former of which is fastened to the eye D and the latter to the eye B upon the telescoping section A.
Fastened to the outer end of the two sections A and A are the clamping members H, each constructed preferab y of .aresilient metahand having indented portions H which This invention relates to new and useful- Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail,
engage the sections upon which they are mounted and form means for securely holding said clamping members in position thereon. Eachof said clamping members has a clamping arm II between which the garment to be supported is to be clamped frictionally. A clamp holding member, designated by letter K, has arms which are pivotally mounted upon a pin- L assing through the two arms of the clam mg member H and each of said members has a laterally projecting lug O forming a handle whereby the said member H may be moved into or out of engagement with the arms H of saidclamping member. By the provision of the resi iheld at all times'in extended positions.
In operation, the garment to be supported is placed between the clamping arms and the latter pressed together in frictional engagement with the article after which, by swinging down the clamp holding members K, the arms -H may be securely held in clamping relation against the garment or other art cle.
By reason'of the telescoping of the sections, the hanger may be adjusted to different lengths as will be readily understood.
When the garment hanger is not in use, it maybe reduced to a compact form convenient for carrying from place to place.
What I claim to be new is:
1. A garment hanger comprising sections each telescoping one within the other, an eye carried by one of said sections and ada ted to be guided in a longitudinal slot in t e other, a hook, aistrap fastened to said eye and also to the outer section, and clamping means carried by said sections, as set forth.
2. A garment hanger comprising sections each telescoping one within the other, an eye carried by one of said sections and ada ted to be guided in a longitudinal slot in t e other, an eye upon the outer of said ent strap F, the parts of the device may be 4 in the other, an eye upon the outer of said sections,' a hook, a resilient'strap fastened at its ends to said eyes and passing through an eye upon said hook, clamping members having portions which surround the outer ends of said sections, and indentures formed in said clamping members for holding the same upon the sections, as set forth.
4. A garment hanger comprising sections each telescoping one Within the other, an eye carried by one of said sections and ada ted to be guided in a longitudinal slot in the other, an eye upon the outer of said sections, a hook, a strap fastened at its ends to said eyes and passing through an eye upon said hook, clamping members fastened one to theouter end of each section and having resilient arms, pivotal clamp holding menibers mounted upon the arms of said clamps and each having a laterally projecting lug, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. CHARLILS WILLIAM WALLIS. Witnesses:
FRANK ALLEN FERGUSON, BARTON DARLINGTON.
