TRUSS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13. 1917.
Application filed August 22, 1916. Serial No. 116,263.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLr A. FILLIP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schulenburg, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in trusses, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a' simple and easily adjusted truss that may be reversed at pleasure and adjusted to give ease and comfort to the wearer and more specifically to provide a truss which includes a pivotally supported pad having a spring pivotally connected thereto and adapted for engagement with peripheral teeth formed upon a ratchet which is carried by the body encircling band or binder of the truss, for holding the pad in various adjusted positions and which pad may be reversed or moved outwardly, by swinging the spring catch on its pivotal connection out of engagement with the ratchet teeth.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view illustrating the application of the truss.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates the body encircling binder which includes a metallic or flexible steel strip 2. The strip 2 is covered with a soft leather covering 3, such as chamois skin or the like. The metallic strip 2 does not extend entirely about the body of the wearer, but terminates at a point slightly beyond the center of the back of the binder 1, as shown at 1, leavin a flexible strap 5 which extends the rest 0 the way about the body and is adapted for detachable connection to the section (3 of the binder. The section 6 of the binder is preferably constructed of ilGXlble steel and it is partially covered with ed to be engaged by the upper end of a 'flat spring 16.
Elie flat spring 16 is pivotally connected as shown at 17, to the supporting plate 18 of the pad 19. The supporting plate 18 of the pad 19 has a pair of arms 20 and 21 formed upon its upper end, which are rolled about the outer surface of the bearing sleeves 10 and 11 for pivotally supporting the pad 19 by the pin 12. The pad 19 is'constructed of an outer casing which is made from soft leather such as chamois or the like and which is stuffed with any suitable soft material as indicated at 23.
The ratchet teeth 15 are adapted to be engaged by the upper end of the spring 16 for holding the pad 19 in an inwardly adjusted position, for holding it securely against the ruptured portion of the body of the wearer. If it is desired to reverse or move the pad 19 outwardly, the spring 16 is moved upon its pivot 17 out of engagement with the ratchet teeth 15 which permit the pad to be moved rearwardly or outwardly as desired.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of What is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. In a truss structure, the combination of a body engaging binder including a pair of flexible metallic bands, soft flexible material covering said bands, the forward meeting ends of said bands being rolled for forming bearing sleeves, a pin carried by said sleeves, a ratchet carried by said pin, a pad pivotally connected to said pin, and
a flat spring pawl carried by said pad and adapted to engage the teeth of said ratchet for holding said pad in adjusted pivotal position.
2. In a truss structure, the combination of a body engaging binder including a pair of flexible metallic bands, soft flexible ma terial covering said bands, the forward meeting ends of said bands being rolled for forming bearing sleeves,'a pin carried by said sleeves, a ratchet carried by said pin, a pad pivotally connected to said pin, and a Hat spring pawl carried by said pad and adapted to engage the teeth of said ratchet for holding said pad in adjusted pivoted position, said spring pawl being pivotally connected to said pad for pivotal move ment out of engagement with said ratchet teeth for permitting said pad to be moved outwardly.

In a truss structure, the combination of a body engaging binder including a pair of flexible metallic bands, soft flexible material covering said bands, the forward meeting ends of said bands being rolled for forming bearing sleeves, a pin rigidly supported by its ends in said sleeves, a ratchet carried by said pin, a pad pivotally connected about said sleeves and supported by the pin, and a flat spring pawl carried by said pad and adapted to engage the teeth of said ratchet for holding said pad in adjusted pivoted position, said spring pawl being pivotally connected to said pad for pivotal movement out of engagement with said ratchet teeth for permitting said pad to be moved outwardly.
4. In a truss structure, the combination for holding said pad in adjusted pivoted position.

In a truss structure, the combination of a body engaging binder including a pair of flexible metallic bands, soft flexible material covering said bands, the forward meeting ends of said bands being rolled for forming bearing sleeves, a pin substantially elliptical in cross section secured in said sleeves, a ratchet wheel rigidly secured to the medial portion of said pin, a pad pivotally arranged over the sleeve and pin, and a flat spring pawl carried by said pad and adapt ed to engage the teeth of said ratchet wheel for holding said pad in adjusted pivoted position, said spring pawl being pivotally connected to said pad for pivotal movement out of engagement with said ratchet .teeth for permitting said pad to be moved Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of ratents.
