UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IGNAZ MEISSL, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JULIUS G. MARKOVITZ,
OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
TRUSS To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IGNAZ MEIssL, citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hernial trusses, and has for its object to provide an improved truss which will retain a hernia without the use of a steel or other spring, and conse quently it is possible to wear the truss with a great degree of comfort, either standing or lying. The manner in which the bands of the truss are cut insures a perfect fit and effQCiJl'T'B operation, and the parts of the truss are capable of adjustment to fit persons of different size and to vary the pressure of the pad. The truss is completely flexible in all parts except the pad itself.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of a double truss constructed according to the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof. 7
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a waistband or belt provided at the rear with an elastic section 7. One end of this belt connects with or is enlarged to form a pad 8. The belt or band is preferabl made of leather lined with plush or other so t fabric, and to form the pad at the enlarged end suitable stuffing is inserted between the leather and the lining. The pad is curved to a shape suitable for the purpose intended. The other end of the Waist belt is attached to the pad by means of a stud 9 on the back of the pad and eyelets 10 in the end of the stra A series of eyelets is made to allow the be t to be adjusted to vary the size thereof. other ad, for use in case of a double hernia, is ma( e separate, and is indicated at 11, and is sewed as at 12 near the end of the strap 6 opposite the ad 8, the )arts being so arranged that t1e pads wil hang beside each other in position to fit the hernias.
To hold the pads in position and to regulate the pressure thereof perineal straps 13 are used. These are looped around the waist belt at the rear, as indicated at 14, and the loops may be adjusted along the belt to any desired position. These straps are connected at their front ends to the lower ends of the pads by means of studs 15 and eyelets 16, a series of the latter being formed so that the straps may be adjusted to fit and so that the pressure on the pads may be varied as desired.
In consequence of the arrangement shown the pads Wlll be held in position to accomplish the purpose intended, and inasmuch as the straps and belt are flexible and are without metallic springs or the like the truss can be worn with comfort at all times and will not chafe or inconvenience the wearer.
I claim:
A truss comprising a belt enlarged at one end to form a pad and connected at the other end to the pad, another pad attached at its upper end to the belt, and perineal straps connected at the back to the belt and adjustably connected at the front to the lower ends of said pad.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
