Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1916.
Application filed January 2, 1913. Serial No. 739,847.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WOLF LEVINSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch-Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to watch protectors, and has for its object to provide a watch pocket of a garment, such as a waist coat, trousers, or the like, with means whereby the felonious withdrawal or accidental slipping of the watch from the pocket may be guarded against, without interfering with the withdrawal of the watch by the owner. 7
Another object of this invention is to provide a pocket with a watch guard which is simple in construction, elfective, economical and inexpensive in the manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and the arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses a preferred form of the invention. It is to be understood however that minor changes, modifications and variations may be made, such as come properly within the scope of the appended claim, without departlng from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of a fragment'of a garment showing a pocket provided with my im proved guard; Fig. 2 is a section along the line 22 thereof, and Fig. 3 is-a view of the ard and its development. Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing, 1 represents the garment,
2 the pocket, 8 the guard, and 4 the flap covering the opening of the pocket. The guard is attached inside the pocket by inserting one end thereof under the side edge copies of this patent may be obtained for of the flap 4: and stitching in the ordinary manner as indicated at 5 which holds the guard longitudinally below the upper edge of the flap.
represents the button which is fastened 1ns1de the pocket opposite the flap and adapted to pass through the slit or hole of the guard. Through the space 7 between the end stitch5 and the button the chain 8 is passed, from which chain the watch 9, or
a similar article, is suspended.
As shown in Fig. 3, the guard is made of a piece of tape 10, or of a similar material, which is first folded over and then under forming thebody of the guard of double the width of the tape. It is then stitched transversely across the base of isosceles triangle 11 as at 15 and across the double width of the tape, as at 12. In this manner the parts are held together and form one slit between the stitchings 15 and 12 which constitutes the button hole 13, and a slit 14: between the stitches 5 and .12, through which, the chain could be passed,
instead of entirely under the guard.
'walls at a distance from the side of the pocket to permit the passing of a watch chain between the side of the pocket where the tape is attached and the button, said tape being provided with a buttonhole for engaging said button.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
