.ATTACHMENT FOR GABMENT-POCKETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 7, 1910.
Application filed March 7, 1910. Serial No. 547,714.
To all whom 'it may cmwem:
Be it known that I, J osEPH LIPKEY, 'a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois,
have invented a certain new and useful Improved Attachment for Garment-Pockets, of
which the following is a specification.
y My invention relates to garment pockets and more specifically to a combination pencil holder and fastener or locking means therefor.
The object of my invention is the provision of means of the character mentioned which will be in the nature of an attachment and which will be of simple and inexpensive construction and efficient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects 1n view my invention consists in a pocket attachment characterized as above mentioned and in certain de- 3 is a transverse section, the pocket-being shown unlocked, Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of a garment bearing a pocket, illustrating a slightly modified forni of my device arranged therein, Fig. 5 1s a longltudinal sectionl thereof, .and Fig. 6 is 'an enlargedsectional detail. K
Referring' now to the drawing, 1 des1gnates the garment in which is provided a ocketl 2, the latter being of any suitable orm and dimensions, and being secured in the former in any suitable manner.
Arranged, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, upon the inner -wall of the pocket 2 ad]acent the mouth of thelatter is a strip 3, the same being secured thereto at intervals by stitches 4 to form loo s or pockets 5. Said loops 5 are of such orm and dimensions as to adapt the Same for the snug reception of penclls, pen-holders, and other similar articles usually carried in the pocket. By passing the chain of a watch through one of said loops, the device may also be utilized as a watch guard or safety device. Provided in said strip 3 is a button hole 6 adapted for engagement by a button 7 provided upon the opposite wall of the pocket, and whereby the latter may evidently be locked. The strip 3 is preferably formed of a suitable textile, and, as clearly shown in Fig. 6, is preferably comprlsed of two parts or strips 8. In the course of construction, the strips 8 are first secured together at their central portions by a line ofstitches 9. Each party is then turned back upon itself, as shown in said figure, and the outer edge portions of each part secured together by stitches 10. This construction of the strip 3 is adopted in order that the button hole 6 may be readily formed therein, the latter as illustrated being formed between the contiguous edges of the parts 8. v
If desired, the relative arrangement of strip 3 and button 7 upon the front and back walls of the pocket may be reversed as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. In this construction a strip 34 similar in all respects to strip 3 is secured to the inner side of the outer wall of pocket 2 and button 7 is secured to the inner wall or portion l. Also, if desired, a strip 11, similar to the strip 3 and similarly secured, may be arranged upon the wall bearing the button 7', as shown in said Figs. 4 and 5. rlhe strip 11, however, since a button hole need not be formed therein, may be formed of but a .single piece of material, which, as shown, in order to strengthen the same is preferably doubled or turned back upon itsel While I have shown what I- deem to be the preferable form of my device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts described without departing from the s irit of the invention comprehended withm the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with a pocket, of a strip arranged therein adjacent the mouth therof, said strip being stitched at intervals to one Wall of said ocket, the same bein formed In testimony whereof I have signed my of two longitudinal sections having their name to this specification in the presence 0f contiguous edges secured together, a button two subscribing Witnesses.
hole formed in said strip between said seo- JOSEPH LIPKEY. tions; and a button provided upon the oppo- Witnesses: l, site Wall of said pocket adapted to en age JANET E. HOGAN,
said button hole, substantially as desem ed. JOSHUA R. H. Po'l'rs.
