CURTAIN-POLE HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
. Application filed November 25, 1916. Serial No. 133,383.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain pole hangers. One ob ect of the invention is to produce a device of this character which may be attached to a window casing, or other support, without the use of nails or screws. A further object is to produce a curtain pole hanger that is adjustable in a vertical as well as a horizontal plane. A further object is to produce a device of this class that is simple in construction, efficient in operation and cheap to manufacture. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in this specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the acompanying drawings which form a part of the specification and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention illustrating its application.
Fig.2 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view of the device.
Fig. 8 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a front view of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a slightly modified form of device.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view in section of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is an end view of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a front view of Fig. 7
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing the reference character 1 denotes the curtain pole to be supported and the same is provided at each end with either the ring 2 which is slidable along the pole or with the flanged ring 2 which is secured by fasteners 3 to the pole. The ring 2 is adapted to receive the bent end 4, of a bracket-arm 5, which lies flat against the pole, the intermediate portion of said bracket-arm extending to the window casing 6 and being bent and extended flat along that casing at 7 and then bent outward from the casing 6 to form the end 8 which end is perforated to permit its sliding engagement with the angular finger 9 the bent extremity 10 of which prevents withdrawal of the end 8 over finger 9 in one direction and a shoulder 11 formed upon said finger upon the opposite side of said arm-end 8 with relation to the extremity 1O prevents withdrawal in the opposite direction.
Beyond the shoulder 11 the finger 9 is diminishedin diameter and extends through a perforation in the intermediate arm portion gagement with the said window casing 6. r
A spring 13 encircles the finger 9 between the shoulder 11 and arm portion 5 and bears against both of said members. The finger 9, further, is formed with a lug 14 which bears against the casing 6 to help sustain the members 9 and 5 in operative position. The construction just described is supplied in duplicate for attachment to opposite sides of a window casing, the springs 13 permitting adjustment of the hanger to window casings of varying widths.
When the flanged ring 2 is substituted for the ring 2 it is provided interiorly with a spring 15 one end of which is secured to the ring and said spring encircles an annular inner termination 16 of the bracket arm 17 which arm is connected by hinge bolt 18 with the supporting plate 19 which is formed with spurs 20 adapted for engagement with the window casing 6. A brace bar 21 formed with the integral cross bar 22 is connected by pins 23 to the plate 19, said cross bar and brace bar having a bearing direct upon the window casing. The construction just described is supplied in duplicate for attachment to opposite sides of a window casing. The spring 15 permits an adjustment between ring 2 and arm 17 to accommodate window casings of varying widths and the hinge connection between said arm 17 and plate 19 permits a vertical movement of said arm so that curtains of varying lengths may be adjusted to any window.
What is claimed is 1. A curtain pole hanger including a bracket arm, one end of which is adapted for engagement with a support and the opposite end formed to provide an annulus sleeved over the curtain pole, and means as sociated with said annulus and curtain pole to permit lateral adjustment of the bracket arm.
2. A curtain pole hanger including a bracket arm, one end of Which is adapted for engagement with a supportandthe ep- 7 posite end formed to provide an annulus sleeved over the curtain pole, a ring, secured to the curtain pole and encircling the annuins, and a sprlng convoluted on the annulus,
having one end secured to the ring and the 7 flanged annular member encircling the an nula-r term-ination 0f said bracket arm and secured to the curtain 'pole and a resilient elementconnecting said flanged annular member and the annular termination of said bracket arm.
In testimony that'I claim the foregoing own I have? hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
