Description

D. G. SCHAFER.
STANCHiON.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 30. 1917. RENEWED AUG. 22, 1919.
WITNESSES srnncnron.
Specification of Letters I'atent.
Application filed November so, 1917, Serial No. coarse. Renewed August a, 1918. Serial at. 251,009.
I '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAN G. Sonarnn, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful llmprovements in Stanchions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cow stanchions and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient cow stanchion which will be very comfortable for the cattle and which may be very readily and conveniently released when desired.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient guiding means for locking the stanchion bar as the same is being swung to and from an open position.
With theseand other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
1n the drawings:-, p Figure 1 is aside elevation of the stanchion.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2of *ig. 3 is a top plan view of the stanchion,
Fig. 1 is a section taken on line ,14 of Fig. 1.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that 1 designates the frame of a stanchion which comprises a vertical bar 2 and a side inclined bar 3. The bars 2 and 3 are connected at their respective ends by means of a bottom bar 4: and a top bar 5. The side bars 2 and?) have their respective ends seated within the notches 6 formed in the top and bottom bars 4: and 5. Suitable pins 7 pass through the ends of the top and bottom bars 4 and 5 and through the bars 2 and 3 for firmly connecting the bars 2 and 3 to the respective end bars 4 and 5.
A locking bar 8 is pivotally mounted with in the aperture 9 formed in the bottom bar 4 upon a pin 10. The upper end of the locking bar works or swings within an elongated aperture 11 formed inthe top bar 5. This locking bar 8 is provided with a beveled face 12 upon the upper end thereof as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and this lbeveled face 12 is adapted to force the look ing link 13 to ride up over the upper end of the locking bar 8, as the locking bar 8 is swung to a closed position. This locking link 13 is pivotally held upon the top bar 5 Patented nee; aiaie.
by means of suitable anchoring staples or 1 eyes 14.
Guiding yokes 15aresecured to the inclined side bar 3 upon opposite sides thereof,
and links 16 are pivotally secured to the locking bar 8 by means of a pin 17 and these guiding links 16 extend through the guiding :yokes .15 carried by the inclined bar 3.
It should be understood that the locking bar 8 may be swung inwardly by pushing upon the ends 18 of the guiding links 16 thereby relievingthe operator of the necessity of pushing directly upon the locking bar 8 forswingingthe locking bar 8 into a closed position. Theends of the links 16 are provided with apertures 19 and are adapted to permit a tool or other suitable means. to be inserted therethrough for the purpose of pulling the locking bar 8 to an open position should the same become accidentally caught 0r rigidly held in a closed position. a
Each of the bars 4 and 5 is provided with a socket 20 in the outer. face thereof within which socket 20 extends a link 21 of the securing chain 22, the link 21 being held in the socket 20 by means of a suitable pin 23. The chain 22 is adapted to connect the stanchion to a support. or other anchoring means.
The notches 6 are of greater length than the thickness of the bar 2 as shown in Fig. Band the top and bottom bars 4 and 5 are provided with adjusting apertures 6' for re ceiving the pins 7 and holding the bar 2. in
an adpisted position with respect to the looking bar 8.
What is claimed is:e-
A stanchion of the class described comprising a frame, a locking bar carried there by, means for holding said locking bar in a closed position, guiding links connected to said locking bar, guiding yokes secured to said frame, said links provided with apertures formed in the outer ends thereof for facilitating the attachment of a gripping tool for moving said links within said yokes.
lln testimony whereof I aflix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
