Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom, it'may concern:
Be it known that 1, Cinemas A. IvEs, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrench Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to wrench devices and particularly to devices of this class designed for use in opening or closing the covers of fruit and vegetable jars, jugs, containers and similar vessels, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of the class'specified which is simple in construction and operation and eificient in use; and a further object of the invention is to provide a wrench device composed of two adjustably connected parts whereby covers of varying sizes may be attached to and removed from jars, jugs and the like to which they are applied.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the separate parts of my improved wrench with the parts in their normal position;

My improved wrench device consists of two approximately similar parts 10 and 11, the part 10 comprising a handle portion 12, an arc-shaped jaw portion 13 and a head portion 14. The jaw portion 13 is provided on its inner face and at spaced intervals with a plurality of inwardly directed teeth or projections 15.
The thickness of the head portion 14 is approximately one-half of the thickness of the handle and arc- shaped portions 12 and 13, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, and said head portion is provided with an arc-shaped aperture 16 having angularly arranged apertures 17 and 18 communicating there- 22 is provided at a predetermined point with an aperture 23 through which is passed a rivet 24: which is also passed through the apertures 16, 17 and 18, and placed between the head 25 of the rivet 24c and the head portion 1 1 of the part 10 is a washer 26 which permits the free action of the separate parts, one upon the other, as will be readily understood.
The end of the handle portion 19 of the part 11 is provided with a downwardly directed pointer or hole puncher 27, and at one side of said'handle portion is secured a sheet metal can opener attachment 28 havmg a knife edge as shown at 29 by means of which and the opener 27 a tin can may be opened in the usual manner.
In the use of my improved wrench the separate parts 10 and 11 are adjusted into the desired position by moving the shank of the rivet 24 carried by the head portion 22 through the apertures 16, -17 and 18, and when said rivet is in the position shown in Fig.2 the wrench is open to its greatest capacity, and when said parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, they are in their intermediate capacity, while by moving the rivet into the aperture 17 a comparatively small cover'may be removed from a suitable vessel with my improved wrench, and in Fig. 2 I have indicated in dotted lines at 30 the cap or cover of a Mason or other fruit and vegetable jar with the separate parts of my improved wrench in engagement with said cap or cover, and by grasping the handle members 12 and 19, the cap or cover 30 may be readily removed from a vessel or attached thereto.
My improved tool may be stamped from sheet metal and thus made at a minimum cost, and yet constitute a very effective and useful article of manufacture, and while I have shown and described a specific form of wrench device for carrying my invention into effect, it will be understood that my invention or the parts thereof are not Having fully described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A wrench device of the class described composed of two approximately similar parts, comprising handle members, j aw members and reduced head members, one of said head members being provided with an arc-shaped aperture, a plurality of other apertures communicating with said areshaped aperture, and a rivet mounted in the other of said head members and passed through and adapted to operate in the apertures in said first named head member.
2. A wrench device of the class described composed of two aproximately similar parts, comprising handle members, jaw members and reduced head members, one of said head members being provided with an areshaped aperture, a plurality of other apertures communicating with said arc-shaped aperture, a rivet mounted in the other of said head members and passed through the apertures in said first named head member, and a washer placed between the first named head member and the corresponding head of the rivet.

A wrench device of the class describe composed of two aproximately similar parts, comprising handle members, jaw members and reduced head members, one of said head members being provided with an arc-shaped aperture, a plurality of other apertures com-v municating with said arc-shaped aperture, a rivet mounted in the other of said head members and passed through the apertures in said first named head member, a washer placed between the first named head member and the corresponding head of the rivet and the innerfaces of the jaw members being provided with inwardly directed teeth or projections.
A. A wrench device of the class described, composed of two approximately similar parts, comprising handle members, arcshaped jaw members and reduced head members, one of said head members being provided with an arc-shaped aperture, a plurality of other apertures communicating with said arc-shaped aperture, a headed device secured in the other of said head members and passed through andadapted to operate in the apertures in said first named head member and the inner face of the arcshaped jaw members being provided at intervals with inwardly directed teeth or projections.
5. A wrench device of the class described, composed of two approximately similar parts comprising straight handle members, arc-shaped jaw members and head members the transverse thickness of both of which is approximately the same asthe thickness of said handle and jaw members, one of said head members being provided with an areshaped aperture, a plurality of other apertures communicating withsaid arc-shaped aperture, a device secured in the other of said head members and passed through and adapted to operate in the apertures in thefirst named head member, and said device being provided with means for preventing the displacement of said head members one from another and the innerfaces of thearcshaped jaw members and said head members being provided with inwardly directed teeth or projections] In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 29th day of May 1918;
