JOHN KELLER, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
SASH-LOGK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1918.
Application filed February 18, 1918. Serial No. 217,977.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that JOHN KELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Magnolia Park, Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, has invented certain new and and locked in the said position.
A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the character described which may be readily released from its locked position when it is desired to adjust the Window sash.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, opera tion and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1, is a front view of a window frame, showing the sashes locked in closed position.
Fig. 2, is a front view thereof, showing the window sash locked in open position.
Fig. 3, is a vertical, sectional view taken on the line 3'3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4, is an enlarged fragmentary view, of a locking device.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, numerals 1, 1, refer to the side members of the window frame, and the numerals 2 and 3 designate the top and bottom members, respectively, of said frame. Mounted in this frame, in the usual manner, are the sashes 4; and 5, which are vertically movable, so that they can be opened and closed.
Attached to the sides of the respective sashes 1 and 5, at their upper and lower ends respectively, are the flexible arms 6 and 7. The upper and lower ends of these respective arms are secured to the corresponding sashes, and the other ends are free and turned at right angles thereto, forming the grips 8 and 9. These arms are preferably formed of some suitable metal, and their inner edges are provided with a plurality of slots 10, spaced apart. Projecting inwardly from the side members 1, 1, are the studs 11 and 12, against which the corresponding arms rest, said studs being provided to engage in one of the slots 10 to lock the sash, to which the corresponding arm is secured, in fixed position.
When it is desired to move a sash up or down, the grip 8 or 9 may be taken hold of, and the corresponding arm pulled outwardly to release the slot 10. from the studs seated therein and the sash adjusted to the desired position, and one of the slots 10 again engaged with said stud. Owing tothe flexibility of the arms, the slots will engage with said studs automatically when the sash is moved to bring them into alinement.
In order to limit the range of the movement of the free ends of the arms, guards-14 and 15 are provided, said guards being attached to the corresponding side members 1, 1, at one end and the other ends being overturned, as shown inFig. 3, forming a hook to retain the free ends of the arms 6 and 7 in a desired position and to prevent the lateral movement thereof.
What I claim is V In a device of the character described the combination with a window frame of a sash movable therein, a flexible member attached to the sash at one end and whose other end is free and'bent over at right angles thereto, said member being provided with slots along one side thereof, an engaging member carried by the adjacent side of the window frame and adapted to engage with said slots to lock the sash in position in the frame and a guard provided to limit the range of movement of the free end of said member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN KELLER.
