TROUSERS-STRETCHEB.
Application filed January 27, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Bureau 0. J QHNS'I'ON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo Gap, in the county of Taylor and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Stretchers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a trousers stretcher and one of its objects is the provision of a device of this character, which shall be simple, durable and eiiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide a pair of telescopic members having trousers clamping means connecting their ends together for receiving a pair of trousers and having means connected to one of the trousers clamping means for causing the trousers clamping means to move apart to stretch the trousers of wrinkles and creases.
. A further object of this invention is to provide a rack bar secured to a permanent object and to be engaged by means connected to one of the trousers clamping means whereby the stretching tension upon the trousers may be increased and decreased as desired.
A still further object of this invention is to provide bars secured to each end of the telescopic members, having clamping members pivoted thereto and rack bars to engage the free ends of the clamping members to hold them into an engagement with the trousers during the stretching process.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the tr0users stretcher, constructed in accordance, with my invention,
Fi 2 is a top plan view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation of Specification of Letters Patent.

the same, illustrating rack bars secured to a permanent object, and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a pair of telescopic members having secured to their upper ends a bar 3 which is adapted to be secured to a fixed object in any well known manner. A pair of relatively spaced ears 4 are formed on one end of the bar 3 and have a plurality of openings 5 therein for receiving a bolt or pin 6. The pin or bolt 6 extends through one end of a clamping member 7 for pivoting the clamping member to the pair of relatively spaced ears 4. The free end of the clamping member 7 is reduced to form a curved end 8. A rack bar 9 is pivotally secured to a pair of relatively spaced ears 10 carried upon the end of the bar 3 and has formed upon one edge thereof a plurality of notches 11 for receiving the reduced end 8 of the clamping member 7. A pair of trousers is adapted to have one of its ends positioned between the bar 3 and the clamping member 7 and the clamping memher is pushed in the direction of the bar 3 z with its reduced end into an engagement with the rack bar 9 to tightly clamp the pair of trousers between the bar 3 and the clamping member 7.
A bar 12 is secured to the lower ends of the telescopic members 1 and has pivotally secured to one end a clamping member 13. A rack bar 14 similar to the rack bar 9 is pivoted to the other end of the bar 12 for an engagement with the free end of the clamping bar 13 for securing the lower ends of a pair of trousers between the clamping member 13 and the bar 12.
A ring 15 is secured intermediate the ends of the bar 12 and has secured thereto a coil spring 16. A substantially triangular shaped stirrup 17 is secured to the free end of the spring and has an eye 18 formed there on. A catch 19 is secured to the eye 18 and has a reduced hooked end 20 adapted to be engaged within notches 21 formed in a rack bar 22. The rack bar 22 may be secured to a permanent object such as a wall, door or the like.
In operation, a pair of trousers is clamped to each end of the telescopic members 1 and is suspended upon a hook or other supporting means not shown) by allowing the hook or other supporting means to engage the bar 3. The operator then pushes downwardly upon the stirr p it? and engages the catch 19 into one of the notches 21, thus placing the pair of trousers under tension, whereby all Wrinkles and creases Will be removed therefrom. If desired double pairs of trousers may be stretched at one time by changing the adjustment of the clamping n1embers '7 and 13 so that several pairs oi trousers my be clamped efiieiently b0 the telescopic members 1.
Vi hile I hate shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will he understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the intention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is 1. A trousers stretcher comprising; a pair of telescopic members, upper and lower clamping members connecting the upper and lower ends of the telescopic members together for receiving a pair or" trousers a rack bar adapted to be secured to spermanent object a coil spring connected to the flopies or this patent may be obtained for five cents lower clamping; member, a substantially triangular-shaped stirrup connected to the coil spring and a catch connected to the stirrup and engaging the rack bar to stretch the trousers.
2. A trousers stretcher comprising a pair or telescopic members cross bars secured to the upper and lower ends of the telescopic members, clamping members adjustably and pivotally secured to the cross bars and having encs reduced and curved, rack bars pivotally' secured to the cross bars for an engagement with the reduced curved ends of the clampingmembers for adjustuhly securing the free ends of the clamping members to the cross bars. and tension means connected to the lower cross car and adapted to be connected to a fixed object for moving the cross bars apart to stretch a pair of trousers,
In testimony W erect I atfix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
