N. RETTIG.
FLY PAPER HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 30. 1917.

INVENTOR WITNESSES U a. 5x7 0- M WW NORA RETTIG, on LOGANSPORT, INDIANA;
FLY-PAPER HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented A131". 2, 1918 Application filed March 30, 1917. Serial No. 158,659.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, N ORA Rnrrro, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fly-Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehendsimprovements in holders for fly paper and has for one of its objects the provision of, an extremely simple and practical device which may be suspended from a wall or ceilin Another and more specific object of the invention is to provide a fly paper holder having a plate on which are mounted spring clips for holding; the fly paper thereagainst and having a pair of bails or hangers for attachment to a horizontal or vertical hook for supporting the device, said hangers being provided with means for clamping them in planes parallel with the plate.
The invention also aims to generally improve devices of this nature to render them more practical, useful and commercially desirable.
, lVith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the fly paper holder in use and secured to a Wall.
F ig, 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the holder showing one of the bolts clamped against the plate.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on the plane of line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a detail view of a part to be hereinafter described.
Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a plate preferably formed of tin and substantially equal in width to a sheet of fly paper 2 which is held thereagainst by a pair of U-shaped spring clips or fasteners 3 which are provided with spring coils 4 and which are soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the plate. The plate is somewhat longer than the standard sheet of fly paper and is bent back on itself adjacent its end edges 5 to provide reinforcements and to overcome the disadvantages of having sharp exposed edges.
The plate is provided with lateral flanges 6, 7 formed by bending the top of the plate at right angles to the main portion thereof formation are pivotally secured to v the;
The bails or handles when swung against the plate are held in this position by the coils 14 and arms 9 which clamp between them the flange 6 of the plate. It will be noted on reference to Fig. 3 that this flange does not extend the full length of the plate but is of such a length as to terminate substantially centrally of the coils 14 when the handles are disposed against the plate.
When it is desired to secure the devic to a wall or other vertical support, the handles are swung upwardly toward each other to dispose the loops 14 in substantial alinement with each other for connection to a hook 15. The device may be secured to a ceiling or horizontal support by hooking eyes 13 to a suitable fastener.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and practical fly paper holder to which sheets of fly paper may be removably secured and which has swinging bails or handles which may be clamped into inoperative out of the Way position against the body of the device or which may be secured to horizontal or vertical fastening means for supporting the holder in operative position.
The coils 14 form an important feature of the device since it is essential that some means be provided for securing the handles against movement when not in use and when the device is being shipped or moved from place to place.
While I have shown and described the 1 n u I v sitio'n, the co ls registering when the'han'dles preferred embodiments of my invention, it Will be 'cl'early'understood that IdonOtwish to be limited to this construction, but may make such changes. as will fall- Within-the scope and spirit of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is: V
1. A fly paper holder comprising a plate adapted to hold sheets of 'fly paper, clamp projecting flanges formed on the sides of said plate, a pair of U shaped handles'hav ing the free ends oftheir arms pivotally secure d to'said' 'plateand spring coils formed on said handles for sclampingengagenient withffsaid flanges whereby the handlesfinay befheld in an out of thefway inoperative p0- are'in elevated positions to provide. forengagement Wlth a support.
qopies of this patent may be obtained for pair of. U. shaped handles having the free.
ends of their arms pivotally connected to said flanges, the handles-being adapted to lie against the plate at an angle thereto and spring ceils formed on said handles in "a plane substantially parallel to the arms thereof for clamping engagement with one of said flanges wherebyv the handles may be held in anont of the Way position, the coils registering ivhen thehandles are in elevated positions as provide for engagementqvith a sup ort. i
In testiinonywhereof I aflix my signature.
