Description
H. WIKSTROM.
TROUSERS STRETCHER.
APPLICATION man FEB. 1!. 191's.
Patented Oct; 2, 1917.
[72 Vania?" HELMER WIKSTROM, OF SILVERDALE, MINNESOTA.
TROUSERS-STRETCHER.
Application filed February 11, 1916.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HELMER WIKSTROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Silverdale, in the county of Koochiching and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in trousers stretchers and its objeot is to produce a simple and eificient device for insertion into trousers-legs to stretch the same and remove wrinkles from the cloth and s0 preserve the correct form of the garment. Another object is to produce a device of this class that automatically adjusts itself to trousers-legs of various sizes.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combina tion and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved trousers stretcher.
Fig. 2 is an edge view with the supporting hook eliminated.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device showing its application.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My invention comprises two bars of rigid material 1, 2; one end of the former bar being curved as at 3 and terminating in a hook 4: by which it and its connections may be secured to a suitable support. The outer corners of the bars are preferably rounded to facilitate their use and in assembled relation the bars are placed parallel to each other and with their edge faces adjacent. Each bar along its inner face is slotted as at 5 and extending transversely through said slotted Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 77,766.
portions are the bolts 6, 7 the former of which carries a sleeve 8 and the latter a rod 9 adapted to telescope into said sleeve and about said rod and sleeve a coil spring 10 is disposed, theends of which are embedded in the said bars 1, 2. The tendency of the spring 10 is to force the rods 1, 2 away from each other thus partially withdrawing the rod 9 from the sleeve 8 but complete separation of said members-is obviated since the said rods 1 and 2 are connected by the spring 10.
In operation the lower ends of the rods 1, 2 are inserted in the cuffed or lower end of the trousers leg to be stretched, the hooked end of the bar 1 protruding from the trousers leg as shown in Fig. 3 for engagement with a suitable support. The action of the spring 10 will adjust the stretcher to tightly fit the trousers leg and stretch and crease the same and to remove therefrom all wrinkles, bagginess, etc. \Nhen the garment is stretched the stretcher may be readily withdrawn by means of the hook 4.
WVhat I claim is In a trousers-stretcher, the combination with two stretcher bars slotted between their ends, one of said bars being formed with an inwardly extended hook of a sleeve pivotally supported in the slotted portion of one of said bars, a rod pivotally secured in the slotted portion of the other bar and adapted for telescopic engagement with the said sleeve, and a coil spring disposed about said sleeve and bar and having its ends embedded in the said stretcher bars.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature 'in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HELMER lVIKSTROM.
