JOHN MANHERT, OF HAMPTON, NEW JERSEY.
PORTABLE `WASHSTAND.
insonne.
Application filed February 21, 1914.
T0 all whom it may conce/ra Be it known t at I, JonN MaNHnn'r, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Hampton, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful .improvements in Portable Vashstands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in portable washstands.
An object of the invention is to provide a portable wash-stand adapted in unfolded position to support a basin, and in folded position to lie against the wall.
A further object of the invention is to provide a portable wasl1-stand constructed wholly of wire, the wire bracket for supporting a basin adapted in folded condition to lie adjacent the wall while the bracket hanger may be utilized as a support for a basin, the weight of the hanger and basin tending to hold the bracket in folded condition.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically described and then claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing by like characters designating corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the device in unfolded position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and, Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail plan view of the basin-supporting bracket.
Referring more specifically to the drawing accompanying this application and in which is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the reference numeral 10 designates a wall or other suitable support, it being also desired that the several parts may be secured to a wall board and the wall board secured to a wall. Mounted upon the support 10 by the fastening means 11 and 12 is a wire member comprising two parallel side arms 13 having secured to the upper ends thereof the off-set bracket 14 constituting a hanger for the towel 15. rlhe upper ends of the side arms 13 are bent to provide eyes 16 for the reception of the fastening means l1. The side arms 13 are bent as at 17 and 18 to provide loops or eyes Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 820,228.
that constitute supports for the basin bracket and basin bracket hanger. The lower ends of the side arms 13 are provided with coiled ends 1t) for the reception of reinforcing or truss rods 2O connected to said eyes at one end, and at their other ends passing through the eyes 1S and bent at the central portion thereof to provide an eye 20 for the reception of a suitable fastening means 20".
The hanger for the basin bracket consists of a U-shapcd wire member comprising` the horizontal portion 21 and side arms 22, the side arms being provided with hooks 23 upon their lower ends. The horizontal arm 21 of the bracket hanger is received in the eyes 17 of the side arms.
The basin bracket consists of a U-shaped wire member comprising the front bar 24 and side bars 25, the latter being provided with loops 26 to receive the hooked ends 23 of the bracket hanger. Engaging the eyes 18 of the side arms are the inner hooked ends 27 of the side arms of the bracket 25. A wire member 28 is bent to circular form and constitutes the support proper for a basin, the wire member 2S having a bend 29 in its forward side to engage the front bar 24 of the bracket, and is further secured to the side arms 25 of said bracket.
A soap holder 31 is provided with a hanger arm 32 that is received on the horii zontal arm 21 of the bracket hanger, the soap container in the present instance being shown as formed of sheet metal, although the same may be readily constructed of wire material.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the stand is in unfolded condition and as shown in dotted lines, supports a basin B, the basin being preferably provided on one of its edges with an eye opening w73". lhen in this position, the hooked ends 23 of the hanger arms 22 engage in the bent portions 26 of the side arms 25 of the basin bracket.
In folded condition, the basin bracket 24 is swung upwardly on its pivotal connection 27 with the eyes 18, in which position the hanger arms 22 will rest upon the end connections 30 of the basin support 28, the weight of the arms tending to hold the basin bracket in folded condition. The basin bracket may be further held in such folded condition by the basin B suspended from one of the hooks 23 of one of the hangers 22 by loops or eyes 30 disposed at a plane at right angles to the support 28.
`While l have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, l do not Wish to coniine myself to the exact construction, as various forms, modiiications and arrangement of the parts may be had without departing from the spirit and scope 01' the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is l. A portable wash-stand comprising an inverted substantially @shaped frame having two sets of spaced eyes formed integral with the side arms of the frame, the eyes ot each arm being in horizontal alinement, hanger arms mounted in the upper pair of eyes and provided with hooks at their lower ends, a basin bracket pivotally-mounted on Y the lower set of eyes and having its side tit members provided with off-set portions, the hooked ends or" the hanger arms being received in the off-set portions of the basin bracket to suspend the same in horizontal position, a substantially vertical basin support having oppositely-alined eyes to engage the side members of the bracket and with a loop to receive the front member of the bracket, and cross braces interlooped at their center and having their terminals secured to the iframe adjacent to the basin support and to the bottom of the frame.
2. A portable wash-stand comprising an inverted substantially U-shaped frame having two sets of spaced eyes formed integral with the side arms or" the frame, the eyes of each arm being in horizontal alinement, hanger arms mounted in the upper pair of eyes and provided with hooks at their lower ends, a basin bracket pivotally-mounted on the lower set of eyes and having its side members provided with off-set portions, the hooked endsol the hanger arms being received inthe 'oset portions of the basin bracket to suspend the same in horizontal position, and a substantially circular basin support having oppositely-alined eyes to engage the side members of the bracket and with a loop ,to receive the Jliront member of the bracket.
lin testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JHN MANHERT.
