Description

A. H. SCOTT. SUPPORTING DEVICE FOR PACKAGES.
APPLIOATION TILED JAN. 24, 1907.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914,
THE mums Pt ARTHUR} H. SCOTT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
surron'rine iniivron ron. PACKAGES,
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedIAug. 4., 1914..
Application filed January 24,1907. Serial No. 853,850.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. Soo'r'r, of
the city and county of Philadelphimstate of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Supporting Devices for Packages,
of whichthe followlng is a specification.
My invention has. reference to supporting devices for packages of toilet paper and con:
sists of certain improvements which are fully set forth inthe following specification and shown in theaccompanying drawings which form apart thereofI In Letters Patent No. 765,599, granted to me on July 19th, 1904, I have shown a device for supporting packets of toilet paper in a case, consisting of a backing provided at its top with an open inverted triangular pocket adapted to receive a supporting tongue or hook of the case.
My present invention relates to a device of this character and more particularly consists of improvements in the pocket structure, whereby greater strength and efficiency are obtained. My improvements also in clude means for attachingthe pocket to the paper package.
More specifically, my invention consists in forming the pocket and retaining on securingmeans of an integral piece of sheet metal, flthe pocket being formed of sheet metal having its edges bent over upon the body of the sheet, and the attaching means consisting of atongue bent at right angles to the plane of the pocket.
My invention also comprehends details of construction which, (together. with the features above specified, will be better understood by reference to the drawings, in which: 1
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a paper packet embodying my. invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the upper part of the same; and Fig. 3, is a perspective view of a modified form of the sheet metal pocket and securing means.
Ais the package of toilet paper, B is the metallic pocket at the back of the package of paper, and C is the securing tongue which extends through the paper package and has its free end bentover as at D on the opposite side of the said package. The tongue C and the pocket B are preferably made of one integral piece of sheet metal. The construction of the pocket may be made in various ways, all of which comprehend the essential characteristics of a pocket open from below, adapted to the back of the package of paper and connected to said package of paper by the securing tongue or its equivalent.
Referring to the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the pocket is made triangular with the outer plate B continuous and with the upper edges thereof turned over to form flanges E E preferably meeting at the top and adapted to form grooves or recesses F into which the support may enter when the package is placed in the case or cabinet as more particularly set out in my patent hereinbefore referred to. The tongue C is. pref erably formed integral with one of the flanges E, but bent at right angles thereto so as also to be at right angles to the plate B and plane of the pocket as a whole. In this construction, the tongue C is at the upper part of the pocket.
Referring to Fig. 3, the plate forming the pockethas its side edges E bent inward correspondingto what is shown in Fig.1, and inthis instance the tongue 0 is made integral with one of said side flanges. There being no top flange in this form. the corners H H may be bent over so as to form oblique closures for a portion of the upper part to I sustain the pocket and package upon the supporting arm of the cabinet. I have shown the side flanges inrthis instance with theirloweredges oblique, but this is not essential as these lower edges may be other- I wise formed if sodesired.
These various examples of my improved supporting device will explain the general construction of my improvement, but it will be understood that the minor details may be varied in .many ways I without: departing from the essential characteristics of the invention set out in the appended claim.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
Asupporting device for a. paper packet which consists of an inverted socket formed In testimony of Which invention, I have of sheeltJ metal having its edges bent};l over to hereunto set my hand.
form 0 lique grooves and having t e metal I of one'ofsaid edges extended at right angles v I ARTHUR SCOTT 5 i to and Wholly to one side of the plane of the Witnesses:
socket to form a tongue for securing the GEO. E. GRIFFIN,
paper packet to the socket; A. P. THACKARA. 7
copies of this patent may be obtained foi' five cents eaclyby addressing the Commissioner of Ratents,
