IMPROVEMENT lN STOVE-GRATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,827, dated June 13, 1871.
To whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SALMON P. DAVIS, of Constantine, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Stove-Grate and Damper; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective, looking at the top. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bottom. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the front grate.
Like letters indicate like parts in each figure.
The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a stove-grate and damper designed for use in either coal or wood stoves. The invention. consists in combining with a stove-grate an adjustable front grate, substan tially arranged and constructed as more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a stove-grate, which is designed to fit the fireboxes of the smallensized stoves, provided with slots 41-, guides 11, and openings 0. B is an extension to said grate, and secured to the grate by proper pins 61 passing through the slots a. This extension is not slotted, and may, by a suitable rod, not shown, be extended or withdrawn at pleasure. G is a vertical grate or fender, provided with lugs e, which pass through the holes 0 in the grate A. The extension B is also provided with seats h in the lower side of the back flange to engage with the guides b. When it is desired that the draught should be directly through the fire, the extension B may be pushed backward to its full extent, or drawn forward to allow the draught to pass up at the back of the fire. The vertical grate may be detached in wood and replaced in coal stoves, as may be desired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with grate A, the vertical grate 0, when the two are constructed and connected as and for the purposes set forth.
