Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRINTERS GALLEV-RESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,857, dated July 11, 1871.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. MURPHY, of Olympia, in the county of Thurston and Terri.- tory of Vashington, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Galley-Best, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specilication.
Figure l is a side view of my improved galleyrest. Fig. 2 is a front view ofthe same.
Similar letters ofreference indicate correspond ing parts.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of my improved galley-rest patented August 3, 1869, and numbered 93,216, so as to. make it simpler in construction, less expensive in manufacture, and more convenient in use 5 and it consists in the construction and combination of various parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the front of the case-stand, to which is attached, at a suitable distance apart, two plates, B, the middle part of which is struck up to form a socket, b1, or has a socket, 111, otherwise formed init to receive the vertical arm O of the bracket. The plate B may have a second plate placed beneath to prevent the vertical arm of the bracket from wearing the case-stand. The plates B are slotted vertically along the inner sides of the sockets b1 to receive a pin, lug, or projection, c', attached to or formed upon the side of the vertical arm O of the brackets, so as to allow the said brackets to be raised and lowered freely when their projecting arms D are turned `as may be desired.
toward each other or parallel with the side of the case-stand. The inner ends of the projecting arms I) of the brackets are attached to the upper parts of their vertical arms O, and their outer ends, which are inclined downward somewhat, as shown in Fig. l, are attached to the upper parts of the brace-arms E of the brackets. The lower ends of the brace-arms E are attached to the vertical arms O. The upper ends of the arms O E project a little above the projecting arms l), as shown in Figs. l and 2, to serve as guards to keep the galley in place upon the brackets. In the sockets bl are formed crossslots b2 b3, leading from the vertical slot b4 to the center of said socket b1, where a notch is formed in the lower side of said slots b2 b3 to receive the pins c and hold the brackets extended in proper position to receive the galley. The two transverse slots b2 b3 adapt the rest to be used with one or two cases, The vertical slots b4 extend below the lower cross-slots b2, so that the brack ets can be conveniently pushed down out of the way when not required for use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the socket-plates B b1 provided with longitudinal slots l)4 and cross-slots b2 b3, one or both, and the brackets O D E provided with pins, lugs, or projections c with each other, to adapt them for attachment to a printers case-stand, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN M. MURPHY. Witnesses:
HENRY SABIN, FRANCIS HENRY.
