Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and vitatc of Pennsylvania, have invented ycertain new and useful Improvements in: Combination-Padlocks7 oi' which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combination padlocks, the object ofthe in` vention. being to provide an improved arrangement of pivoted tumbler-s controlled by an improved arrangement of rotary and longitudinally movable plungers for operating a springpressed bolt to release the shackle and allow the latter to be thrown open by its spring.
A further object is-to improve upon the construction 'set 'forth in Patent No. 1,123,061 granted to me ecember 29th, 1914, on an improved padlock. Y

This springbears at one' end against the tongue 16 of tumbler 11., and at its other end against the tongue 17 vof tumbler 12, serving the double function *of holding these tumblers 1n their normal positions.

To operate the lock, plunger 23 is first moved upwardly as shown in Fig. 2, thereby moving tumbler 12 on its pivot and moving said tumbler out of the Way of. 'finger-30. The next operation4 is to turn 'the plunger 21 so as to position the finger- 30 under the wall 32 of tumbler 10. The next operation is `to press the plungers 21 and 22 upwardly, as shown in Fig. '3. 'Ihe upward movement of plunger 2l by reason o the engagement of finger 30 with wall 32.y moves the tumbler 10 on its pivot, but not far enough to entirely withdraw the bolt as shown in Fig. 3. The upward movement of plunger 22, by reasonof its en agement with the tongue 16, causes the tum ler 12 to swing on its pivot and move out of the way of finger 29. The next operation is to turn the plunger 20 so as'to' position the finger 29 under the wall 33"oftumblerv 1.0. The' final operation isto press upvifardly'plunger 20.. which moves tumbler 10e-.to complete the Withdrawal of the ybolt and release the shackle as shown clearly in Fig. 4. When the plungers 20 and 2,1 are given a quarter turn tmove them out of the npath of the tumblers, the spring 18 and the spring 9 re- 'turnl the tumblers' to normal position, while the springs 27 return the plungers to nor- ,mal position; and as soon as the shackle is closed,y it will be automatically locked by the spring-pressed bolt 7.

A padlock, comprising a casing, a shackle pivotally connected at one end to the casing, aspring-pressed bolt normally engaging the free end of the shackle, a tumbler pivotally. supported in thecasing and operatively engaging the bolt, a pair of plungers supported in thecasing and projecting therefrom, said plungers adapted to move the tumbler in a direction to release the bolt, other tumblers pivotally supported in the casing and normally preventing operative engagement of the plungers with the first-mentioned tumbler, and other plungers mounted in the casing and projecting therefrom and adapted to operate the last-mentioned tumblers, substantially as described.
6. A padlock, comprising a casing, a shacklepivotally connected at one end to the casing, a spring-pressed bolt normally engaging the free end of the shackle, a tumbler pivotally supported in the casing l a d operatively engaging the bolt, a pair of move the tumbler in a direction to release ungers supported in the casing and projecting therefrom, said plungers adapted to the bolt, other tumblers pivotally supported in the casing and normally preventing operative engagement of the plungers With the irst-mentioned tumbler, and other plungers mounted in the casing and projecting therefrom and adapted to operate the last-mentioned tumblers, a single spring holding the last-mentioned tumblers in normal position,

spring-pressed bolt normally engaging the free end of the shackle holding the same in locked position, a plurality of pivoted tumblers in the casing, one of said tumblers having a bifuroated finger operatively engaging in a groove in the bolt, a plunger for moving the tumbler having a'inger thereon, the other of said tumblers normally preventing operation of the plunger, and other plungers controlling the operation. of the lastmentioned tumblers, substantially as described.
