Description

A. G. KAUFMAN.
HYDROCARBON LAMP SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 10. 1914.

i Q Inventor:
ADOLPH Gr. KAUFMAN, OFNEW YORK, N. Y.
HYDROCARBON- LAMP SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 15, 1915'.
Application filed June 10, 1914. Serial No. 844,217.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADoLPH G. KAUFMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Hydrocarbon-Lamp Support, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hydrocarbon lamps, and especially to the class of lamps where the hydrocarbon is converted into a gas before being burned; and the object of my invention is to provide a lamp so constructed that it may be removed from the normal support used when in use, and set on a table, or floor when refilling.
The invention is designed as a companion application to the application for patent on a self-contained hydrocarbon lamp, filed June 10, 1914, Serial Number 844,218.
In the companion application a lamp is described in which the reservoir, bracket, generator, and burner, or burners are combined as an article of manufacture. With such a lamp it is desirable to take the same from its support when filling, or cleaning, and rest it upon the floor, or a table. During such operation it is most desirable that the lamp should be supported in a firm manner. As, however, the lamp proper is necessarily located at some distance from the reservoir it is a difficult matter to support the complete device. To overcome this difliculty I have so constructed the parts that the bracket itself will form one of the legs on which the entire device may be supported; and I have formed cooperating supports in conjunction with the regular suspending rod of the reservoir to hold both the lamp and reservoir in an upright position when resting on a table or floor.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1, is a side elevation of a hydrocarbon lamp constructed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2, is an elevation, taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
In the drawing similar numerals of reference refer to the same parts in each of the views.
In practice, I provide a hydrocarbon lamp having a suspending tube, or rod 4:, reservoir 5, through which said suspending tube, or rod passes, a bracket 6, and lamp 7, with a support consisting of two legs, or feet 8, and 9, connected with the bottom of said suspending tube, or rod outside the reservoir 7, as shown particularly in Fig. 2, and mounting on the ends thereof respectively the knobs 10, and 11, and in providing the bracket 6, with a knob 12, on a line with the knobs 10, and 11, whereby when the lamp is resting on a support, indicated by the line 13, the lamp will stand substantially level for the purpose of filling the reservoir through the part 14, or for the purpose of cleaning the lamp. As the entire device is supported at three points located in a substantially hori- Zontal plane; and two of these supports are connected directly with the suspending tube, or rod passing through the reservoir, and these three points are so located that both the lamp proper and reservoir will be firmly supported, it is evident that I have provided simple and efiicient means to perform the desired act of holding the entire device in a perfectly firm manner.
WVhile I have shown but one lamp connected with thereservoir 5, it is evident that a lamp could be mounted on each side of thereservoir in substantially the same manner as the lamp shown is mounted on one side thereof.
It will thus be seen that I have provided simple and efficient means for supporting a hydrocarbon lamp of the character described in a firm manner when removed from the normal support and resting on a floor, or table; and I have provided such a support without detracting from the appearance of the device. By utilizing a part of the lamp bracket-to form one support I am not only able to provide a very firm device; but by such a construction I am able to make a hydrocarbon lamp in which the real purpose of the particular positioning of the bracket with the contact point thereon will not'be apparent when the lamp is performing its normal function; and, consequently, the attractive appearance of the lamp will not be marred.
I claim: said legs and bracket being in the same hori- A hydrocarbon lamp having a reservoir, a Zontal plane, for the purpose set forth. 11 suspending device passing through said Dated 9th June, 1914. reservoir, a bracket, and a lamp proper, a ADOLPH G KAUFMAN support comprising two legs each havlng one end secured to said suspending device Witnesses:
and a knob mounted on the other end, and JAMEs A. WHITE, said bracket having a knob, the knobs on 154A. WEST.
