DELIVERY-:RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. l Patented B1111. 19, 1912.
Application filed May 8, 1911. Serial No. 625,840.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR B. Cownns, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Delivery-Receptacles, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and shown in.
the accompanying drawings. The present invention relates-to delivery receptacles and more particularly to tfie t 0 eggs are delivered in a suitable tray.
An object of this invention is to provide a construction in which the delivery'tray also serves as a support and separator for the eggs while the latter are in the case or carrier, thus reducing the cost of the carrier, and at the same time permittin the eggs to be delivered separated from eac other.
To these and other ends the invention consists in certain parts and combinations of parts all of which will be hereinafter described, thenovel features being pointed out.
in the appended claims. 4
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a'longitudinal section of a receptacle constructed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2'is' a transverse section; Fig 3 is a bottom view of the tray; and Fig. l is a side view of the traiy 11 carrying outthe ,invention there is employed a case 1 preferably of rectangular form with an intake .at its top and a discharge at its bottom. The top may be closed by a coverof any form, such as a slide 2 WhlCl'l works in ways or grooves 3 1n the opposite sidewalls of the case and is operated by introducing the finger within the opening 2, an opening 2 being also 'provided in an end wall of the case 1 for the passage of the finger during the withdrawal of the cover. At the bottom of the case there may be provided a support 4 for the tray preferably in the form of a slide also guided in ways or grooves in the side walls of the case and having an end proectmg beyond the case and serving as an operating portion. The outer .or lower walls [Wot the grooves are slightly shorter than the inner walls so that the grooves will not interfere with the discharge of the tray from the case.
The tray which supports the eggs within the case is pocketed or celled to hold the eggs separated. In the present instance, the tray comprises a sheet of material perforated at have lateral a movable support for said through said 7 to provide the cells or pockets and having dc 'icnding supporting flanges 8 along opposite edges to rest upon the supporting shde -l-. The supporting flanges at intervals may supports 9 preferablyin the form of tongues cut from the stock of the flanges S and bent inwardly to rest upon the supporting slide.
In using the invention, a tray is within the case through the opening in the top with the flanges S and supports 9 resting upon bottom slide 4. The eggs are then placed-sin the individual cells or pockets and the cover 9 titted in place. lVhen the place of delivery is reached, the case as a whole is placed upon a suitable support and the slide 4 is withdrawn by means of the projecting end 4, thus causing the tray and the eggs to drop upon the support as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, it being apparentthat the bottom slide is very thin and close to the bottom of the case so that the drop of the tray is short. v
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the case is made of very few parts which are not liable to get out of order. The tray is made from a single sheet of material and placed does not require any pasting or stapling;
and itnotonly serves to deliver the eggs in a separated condition, thus reducing the breakage, but acts to hold the eggs separated within the case.
\Vhat I claim as my invention and desire -to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a delivery receptacle, the combination with a case having a discharge opening at its bottom and an intake opening at its top, of a celled tray in said case adapted to be passed through the intake opening and to drop through said discharge opening, and
tray.
2. In a delivery receptacle, the combina- .tion with a case having a discharge opening in its bottom and an intake opening at its top, of a tray in said case adapted to drop discharge opening, and-a support for the tray slidable on. the casing out of supporting position.
' '3. In a delivery receptacle, combination with a case having an intake opening at its top and a sliding bottom, of a tray loosely arranged in the case and adapted to be passed through the intake openings and to drop from the case as the bottom is removed.
4. In a delivery receptacle, the Combinetion with a case'open at its top and its bottom, of a celled tray constructed to pass through the opening in the top and the bot; tom,-and a movable support engaging the under side of the tray to hold the latter in the case.
5. In a delivery receptacle, the combination with a case at its top and its bottom, of a celled tray constructed to pass through the opening in the top and the bottom, and a slide closing the opening in the bottom and supporting the tray Within the case.
6. In a delivery receptacle,-the'combination'with a casing having a sliding bottom and a sliding top, of a celled tray supported on the bottom and adapted to be dis- 2O sides near the bottom, the lower Walls of charged from the case when the bottom is removed; v
7. In a delivery receptacle, the combination with a case having grooves in opposite said grooves being shorter than the upper walls, and a bottom slide movable in'said the class described having 7 tion With a case having a discharge opening at its bottom and an intake opening at its top, of a tray comprising a perforated sheet having depending supports, and a movable support for sustaining the tray against discharge through the open bottom.
10. A tray of the class described comprising a perforated sheet having depending supporting flanges along opposite edges, said flanges having tongues cut therefrom and bent inwardly to provide lateral supports.-
