NIPPLE FOR NURSING-BOTTLES.
earner.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedDec. 16,1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB Prnrrrnn, citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nipples for Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention is designed as an improvement upon the type of nipple patented by me under date of May 9, 1899, #624,859. I have found that in the use of a nipple of the character shown in said patent the groove or channel is more or less diflicult to keep properly cleansed and in a sanitary condition, and furthermore the opening, notwithstanding the channel in the stem, was not entirely free from danger of becoming closed or clogged up.
The present invention has for its object to overcome these objections, and the invention includes the novel construction hereinafter described and particularly defined by the appended claim.
A nipple constructed in accordance with my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the nipple; Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 22 of Fig. 1 looking toward the top.
Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the numeral 1 designates the nipple which may be of the ordinary or any desired shape, and 2 the stem which projects inward from the head of the nipple sufliciently far to prevent collapsing of the nipple. The stem is provided with a transverse slit or passage 3 entirely through it, and eX- tending from the head backward a suitable distance, and the delivery opening .L is in direct line with the center of this passage. By extending the passage 3 entirely through the stem, I avoid the objectionable groove or channel which is diflicult to cleanse, and thus make the nipple of a more sanitary nature, and furthermore I have found that by this arrangement the opening 4 is less likely to become clogged, as it is not located in a corner, as was necessarily the case in my prior patent referred to.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A nipple for nursing bottles having a stem integral with the head or dome thereof, provided with an elongated transverse passage extending entirely through the same and extending to the head or dome, the said head having an outlet orifice in line with said passage, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB PFEIFFER.
Witnesses:
