M5, ma@ W ww NANNIE IVICMURTRY, OF CARTHAGE, MISSOURI.
BANDEAU'.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, NANNIE MCMURTRY, a citizen of the United States, residingat Carthage, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bandeaux, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a. bandeau for hats to enable the hat to be conveniently positioned on the head.
Although l am aware that bandeaux have been used heretofore in hats, the mentioned bandeaux generally consist of a Continuous circular body which cannot be adjusted to fit any desired hat, it being necessary to provide bandeaux of particular sizes for individual hats.
In the use of my device I aim to provide a bandeau that can be adjusted to fit hats of various sizes, thus obviating the necessity of making bandeaux of a particular size for a hat of a particular size.
To accomplish the desired result, use is made of. a crescent-shaped stiffening or body covered with a finished material and preferably provided with stiffening members, the ends of the said body being normally spaced apart and adapted to be brought together when the bandeau is arranged in hats of smaller sizes, the said ends being likewise adapted to be spaced farther apart so that the bandeau can be accommodated in hats of larger sizes.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my device, parts being broken away to disclose the underlying structure. Fig. 2 is a transn verse sectional view taken on t-he line 2-2 Specification of Letters Patent.

in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the frame.
Referring more particularly to the views, l provide a crescent-shaped frame l0, consisting of a continuous piece of wire bent as shown in Fig. 3 and secured thereto in any convenient manner is a stiifening ll, a cover l2 of any desirable finished material being mounted to inclose the frame 10 and stiffening material 1l, the ends of the said cover being preferably connected by a thread or the like to retain the cover in rigid engagement with the frame.
By referring to Fig. l, it will be seen that the ends 13, 14C of my device are normally spaced apart so that the bandeau can be mounted within a hat and adjusted either by bringing the ends toward each other or spacing them farther apart, for the purpose of properly mounting the bandeau within the hat and securing it in a position which will enable the bandeau to capably constitute a support for a hat when the hat is positioned on the head.
I claim l. An adjustable bandeau comprising a crescent shaped flexible frame, a stiffening thereon, and a flexible cover inclosing the said frame.
2. An adjustable bandeau comprising` a flexible frame consisting of a continuous piece of wire bent in a crescent shape, a stiffening of a crescent shape and secured to the said frame, and a flexible cover mounted to inclose the said frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NANNIE MGMURTRY.
