SARAH JANE HUDSON, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
FASTENING MEANS FOR HATS OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1'7, 1914.
Application filed .Tune 8, 1912. Serial No. 702,551.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH JANE HUDSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 48 Upper Bedford Place, London, WV. 0., in the county of MiddleseX, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Means for Hats or the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fastening means for hats and the like, and has for its object to provide a firm and secure fastening means which besides holding the hat or the like firmly in position upon the head of the wearer shall be neat and ornamental in ap pearance.
The invention consists in an improved fastening for hats or the like comprising wire or other supports to be attached to the hat and formed with eyelets engaging with a convenient form of rod or pin passing through the hair and acting as a support for the latter.
The accompanying drawing illustrates improved fastening means for supporting more-particularly that portion of the hair which is situated and arranged at the sides of the head from the hat. These means comprise a convenient form of a rod or pin a which may be formed from any suitable material and-of any convenient size, shape, and which is adapted to pass through the hair and engage in eyelets formed in wire or other supports f preferably constituted by a double strip or length of material. The ends 9 of said supports are adapted to be inserted through the brim of the hat and be turned over somewhat in the manner of an ordinary paper fastener.
It is to be understood that my invention is not to be confined to any particular style or type of hat or the like nor to any particu lar material from which the various parts of my fastening device are to be formed as I may modify these and other details to suit the varying tastes and fashions and any particular style of external ornamentation that may be desired.
What I claim is An improved fastening means for hats or the like comprising, a hat, a plurality of wire supports attached to the hat brim separated from each other and depending a suitable distance below said brim, each wire support being formed from a single length or strip of wire doubled upon itself and having an eye formed at the lowermost end of each support and being substantially in alinement with each other, the upper portion of each wire support passing through the brim and turned over in contact with the outer side of the brim, and a rod or pin having a single prong passing through the hair and through the eye in the lower end of each of said Wire supports, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
SARAH JANE HUDSON.
