Description
ALBERT KERN, 0F AACHEN, GERMANY.
HAND-CARD.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented Uct. 22, 1912i.,
Application led September 6, 1911. Serial No. 647,946.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT KERN, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Aachen, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand- Cards, of which the following is a specifin cation. l
This invention relates particularly to the support for holding a card or other brushing material.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, convenient and economical support for a card, whereby a card may be readily and quickly put in position and adjusted. y
rIhe invention also relates to the specific details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
rI`he accompanying drawing shows by way of example two forms of applying the invention and in this drawing: Figure 1 is an inverted view of my improved support with a card in position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
The numeral 1 indicates a head formed with an open slot 2, and intersecting this slot is an opening 3. The opening 3 extends through an extension A, on the head 1, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
Fastened to the under surface of the head 1, is a stationary plate 5, the forward end of which is provided with a bead 6, the inner end of which is bent up to provide a hook 7.
8 indicates a handle provided with a threaded stem 9 which passes through the opening 8, in the head. The threaded stem engages a threaded opening 10, formed in an extension 11, on an adjustable plate 12. rlhe adjustable plate extends rearwardly from the extension, and its outer edge is beveled as at 13.
A sheet of card cloth 14, is supported by' the hook 7, and the plate 12. The forward end of the sheet of card cloth is provided with a downwardly extending hook 16, which fits in the bead 6, and is engaged by the hook 7. The rear end of the card cloth is provided with an upwardly extended hook 17, which engages the rear end of `the plate 12.
To attach a piece of card cloth, the hook 16, is fitted over the hook 7, while the hook 17 is slipped over the edge of the plate 12. Then by turning the handle 8, the threaded stem will move the extension 11, and the plate 12, and stretch the cloth and hold it taut.
Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is:
In a device of the character described, the combination of a head fornzed with an open slot, a handle having a threaded stem, the latter extending into the head and across the open slot, a movable plate having a rearwardly extended portion and formed with a vertical extension which iits in the open slot and which is formed near its upper end with a threaded opening with which the threaded steinof the handle engages, a rigid plate secured to the underside of the head, said rigid plate having its forward edge bent inwardly to provide a lip, the latter and the extended portion of the movable plate serving as a support for a brush.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT KERN.
Witnesses P. FINE, JosEr SORMAIN.
