Abstract
A manufacturing method of a glass substrate for a magnetic disc includes a polishing step in which an abrasive agent including a loose grain is supplied between a glass substrate and an abrasive pad for polishing a main surface of the glass substrate and a carrier for polishing retaining the glass substrate and the abrasive pad are relatively moved to carry out polishing, wherein the carrier for polishing includes a glass substrate retention unit having a retention hole for retaining the glass substrate and a gear portion provided on an outer circumference of the glass substrate retention unit, the glass substrate retention unit and the gear portion include different materials, thickness of the glass substrate retention unit is between 0.45 and 0.63 times as thick as target thickness of the glass substrate, and thickness of the gear portion is between 1.00 and 1.84 times as thick as the glass substrate retention unit.
