In apparatus for charging a powdered ore sintering machine comprising a swinging spout 1 which distributes raw material over a back plate 2 whence it falls on to an inclined front plate 3 having a depending cut-off plate 4 which determines the depth of the material deposited on the moving pallet 14, guide plates 8, 9 are disposed stepwise behind the cut-off plate so that the finely powdered portion of the material which becomes segregated from the coarser portion during its fall over the plates 2, 3, instead of being confined to the upper layers of the material in the pallet, is distributed in layers throughout the depth thereof. Vertical slit plates, not shown, extending in the direction of motion of the pallet are disposed between the cut-off plate and guide plates to form, in operation, slit clearances in the charge layer which, after sintering, allows it to be easily broken into blocks for crushing.
