Abstract
A blast furnace process comprises adding a highly reducing gas, i.e. a gas consisting of (nCO+mH2), produced at 1325-1600 DEG C. by reforming pure oxygen and fuel oil in the blast furnace and simultaneously adding oxygen to the blast either in the tuyeres or directly at high speed into the combustion zone, the coke ratio being reduced in a proportion of 1.6 to 2.2 parts coke for one part of fuel oil while the blowing rate per minute is maintained. The reducing gas may be added at the level of the plastic seam through funnel-shaped recesses in the bosh or through one or more of the blast tuyeres which may or may not be cut off from the blast supply.
