Abstract
<PICT:1060470/C4-C5/1> In a slagging gas producer which is used for smelting ores, a preheated air blast is delivered by nozzles 11, and the gas produced is drawn off at a level below the nozzles 11, e.g. through the slag outlets 2. The depth of the incandescent fuel bed between the levels 2, 11 is such that CO2 formed in the combustion zone (extending above the nozzles 11) is reduced to CO. The product gas passes through a recuperator 4 for heating the air for combustion, which is supplied by a blower 8. Product gas may be recycled to the producer, and steam may be included in the blast. The producer may be associated with a steel-producing furnace, and slag from the furnace may be delivered to the producer.
