Disk and like mills.-Ventilated millstones or metal grinding-disks have the air channels 2, Figs. 3 and 4, into which cold air is blown to cool the stones or disks and the grist, widened upwards on one side 3 and terminating below in grooves 4, the long sides of the channels being in alinement with the grooves. In horizontal stones &c., the air-supply tubes are preferably not rigidly connected therewith but are placed against the upper side of a wide band or casing which covers the channels and is correspondingly perforated. When the tubes 7, Fig. 5, are rigidly connected with the stones, a separate iron band is provided for each channel, and each set of tubes is connected to a larger tube 8, which is connected rotatably with the central air-supply pipe. In horizontal stationary lower stones, the air-supply tubes are attached by means of iron bands against the air channels. Vertical stones &c. have the tubes connected to the fixed or running stone in the same manner as in horizontal stones.
