Abstract
1354181 Charging furnaces GRANGESESSEM AB 10 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 19874/71 Heading F4B [Also in Division B1] A channel furnace comprises at least one charging duct 17 communicating with the main chamber 16 of the furnace and an induction coil 20 surrounding the upper portion of the or each duct 17 to provide stirring of the melt therein. A replaceable section 19 of the duct 17 which includes the coil 20 may be provided with an exchangable insert tube. A spout 21 permits discharge of slag from the duct 17. The level of melt in the duct 17 is maintained at a suitable level by introduction of gas under pressure, e.g. without oxygen, into the space above the melt in the chamber 16. The furnace is tiltable about a pivot 15 for discharge of the melt through a spout 14. One or more induction heating devices 12, 13 are provided for heating the chamber 16 and duct 17.
