1,131,944. Metallurgical converters. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. 9 Feb., 1966 [11 Feb., 1965], No. 5726/66. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] Apparatus as illustrated for oxygen steelmaking consists of two converters 1, 2 arranged side-by-side with a connecting duct between them, each having an oxygen lance 5, 6 and a closable outlet duct 9, 10 located low down in the wall. Each converter is used alternately for refining and melting a charge, the gases evolved in the refining converter being led to the melting converter where they are burnt with oxygen from the lance and led through the charge. The converters may be so constructed as to be tiltable.
