Abstract

1,226,738. Deoxidation of steel. SUDDEUTSCHE KALKSTICKSTOFF-WERKE A.G. Oct.10, 1969 [Oct.14, 1968], No.49886/69. Headings C7A and C7D. In a process for the production of continuously cast products, containing more than 0À015% aluminium to a non-alloyed or low alloyed steel melt is added at least 0À1% of a deoxidation alloy which comprises 15-30% barium and/or strontium, 5-30% calcium, 40-60% silicon and/or aluminium and at most 20% iron unavoidable impurities, and manganese if present. Preferably the sum of the contents of barium, strontium and calcium is at most 50%, and the sum of the contents of barium and strontium is substantially the same as the content of calcium. The aluminium may be added to the melt before or simultaneously with the deoxidation alloy. The sum of the contents of barium, strontium and calcium may be 1À6-2À7 times the final aluminium content of the steel. Specified deoxidation alloys are Ba (15%) Ca (15%) Si (55%) Fe and impurities (remainder), Ba (20) Ca (20) Al (30) Si (15), Sr (5) Ba (10) Ca (15) Si (50) and Sr (10) Ba (10) Ca (15) Si (50). The process may be performed in an electric arc furnace.
