Abstract
1,251,929. Refining iron; fluxes. AUGUST THYSSEN-HUTTE A. G. May 28, 1970 [May 29, 1969], No. 25726/70. Headings C7D and C7M. High-phosphorus iron is top-blown with oxygen until the P content is 0.04-0.06% and then tapped free of slag through a tap hole into a second vessel, particularly a ladle, where the P is reduced to 0.0035% or less by treatment with a solid mixture containing lime, iron oxide dust and fluorspar. The dephosphorizer is preferably added to the tapping stream at such a rate that addition is complete when the ladle is half-filled; it may contain 45-70% CaO, 5-35% Fe in the form of oxide (particularly converter dust), 0.5-4% Mn in the form of oxide, 5-30% CaF 2 , and SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , MgO as impurities.
