[Also in Division C1] Slag containing e.g. lead and zinc is continuously tapped from a shaft furnace 1 into a settling pool 4 in which its temperature is raised 100‹C., then conveyed to a fuming furnace 6 where air and carbonaceous fuel are continuously blown into the slag whereby the zinc and any remaining lead are recovered. The lead is mainly recovered from the shaft furnace, through a siphon 3. The furnace 1, pool and fuming furnace are arranged in stepwise relationship.
