Abstract
Zinc is extracted from Zn contg. slags by treating the molten slag in an electric furnace with a reducing agent such as coke and blowing, as inert gas, N2 at an amt. of 0.5-3.5 nm3/min.m2 onto the surface of the melt at a temp. of 1220-1400 degrees C. The treatment is pref. carried out at a bath height of 500-1000 mm, and the rate of N2 introduction is pref. 30-100 in/sec. The temp. is pref. 1220-1290 degrees C. The process saves electric energy while giving a more rapid, continuous yield of Zn.
