Abstract

Mechanically harvested, field vegetables contg. stones and other heavy rubbish are gravity fed into a sepg. zone through which is blown a rising air stream powerful enough to lift the vegetables. The heavier rubbish falls through the air stream into a waste chute while the vegetables are carried upwards and over a partition into a collecting hopper. The angle of the air stream w.r.t. the path of falling rubbish is pref. adjustable, e.g. by pivoting section(s) of the air stream passage. The air stream is pref. passed through an adjustable venturi throat at the point where it meets the vegetables.
