Abstract

In a prior art method of filling containers such as paper bags, the material (13) to be introduced into the bags is first compacted in a compaction chamber (1). Compaction is carried out either by means of vibrators inserted in the material or by means of suction heads which, after each suction operation, must be blown free of material. The invention, on the other hand, calls for a vacuum to be applied above the level of the uncompacted material. This makes more rapid filling cycles and simpler equipment possible.
