Device for holding drinking straws in Drinking vessels

Drinking tubes for sucking drinking liquid from glasses, cups or similar drinking vessels, as they are normally sold, have a length of more than 200 mm, so that they can only be used in drinking vessels of a corresponding height without the risk of falling out. If the drinking vessel - hereinafter referred to as "glass" or "drinking glass" for the sake of simplicity - is too low, the drinking tube must be placed next to the vessel. This is often undesirable or inconvenient and in many In some cases, e.g. bedridden patients or patients with a hand or arm injury, but also when you want to drink the drink standing up without a table or other place to put it, it is impossible. Since the innovation was not exclusively, but primarily designed for so-called drinking straws, the term "drinking straw" is generally used below to further simplify the description for drinking tubes of all kinds.

The aim of the innovation was to eliminate the disadvantages described and to create a device with which a drinking straw can be determined and held in a glass regardless of its height. The innovation solves this problem with the means specified in claim 1; further advantageous embodiments are defined in the subclaims.

The innovation is shown in the drawing using an example that does not claim to be complete and is described below on the basis of this, whereby

In the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, the device according to the innovation is an essentially continuously flat plastic injection molded part 1. This consists of the rectangular or approximately rectangular shield 2 and two side parts 3, 3', which are connected to the shield 2 via webs U that are thinner than the shield and side parts. In the same way, a tongue 6 is connected to a narrow edge of the shield 2 via a web 5 that is weaker than the latter.

The tongue 6 has an opening 7 for inserting a drinking straw through, which is suitably dimensioned so that a drinking straw of standard diameter can just about be guided through without difficulty.

In the use state, the side parts 3, 3' have clamping slots 8 which enclose a glass edge and which in the preferred embodiment shown are rectangular and are partially filled by rectangles which serve as claws 9 when placed on a glass edge, the lower free corners of which have a rounding 10.

In addition, the side parts can be extended on the shield and tongue side by a triangular extension 12 rising above their upper edges 11, the short legs of which are provided with teeth 13. If the tongue 6 then has recesses 14 or at least one such with a

horizontally extending boundary edge 15, the teeth 13 can interact with this edge 15 in a manner described later. In this case, the tongue 6 expediently has a further web-shaped weak point 16 and is thus divided into a lower part that can be bent and locked and an upper part that can be bent freely relative to the lower part and has an opening 7 for the drinking straw.

For use, the side parts 3, 3' are bent away from the outside of the shield 1 by the webs 4 and then the device is placed on the edge of a glass 17 as shown in Fig. U so that it engages in the slots 8. Since the claws 9 are thinner than the side parts 3, they will bend outwards as shown in Fig. 3 and will rest on the edge of the glass from the inside if the device is placed on so that the step 18 between the thicker side part and the thinner claw points inwards, i.e. the steps point towards each other. This means that different glass thicknesses can be taken into account depending on the spread of the claws and a firm fit of the device can be ensured.

This, i.e. the correct direction for bending the side parts, can be indicated, for example, by adding the imprint "outside" on sign 1 or by using this area for an advertising print.

When using the new device in hospitals, sanatoriums and the like, the visible free area of the sign can also be used to display the patient's name.

Then, as shown in Fig. H, the tongue 6 is bent around the web 5 in the direction of the opening of the glass 17 and the drinking straw 19 is inserted through the opening and pushed as far into the interior of the glass as the user wishes. If the drinking straw is then released, it will wedge into the opening of the tongue due to the elastic spring effect of the tongue and thus be held in place. In addition, the tongue 6 can be fixed in a certain position by snapping it into place on the edges 15 with the aid of the teeth 13 on the projections 12.

A band-shaped ice holder 21 with two openings 22, 22' matched to a drinking straw diameter can be connected to the injection-molded part 1 via thin tear-off webs, the function of which, as can be seen from Fig. 4, consists in being pushed with the two openings onto the drinking straw lower part 19a in order to hold a piece of ice 23 in the drinking liquid, the size of which can be taken into account by moving one or both openings 22, 22'. The ice holder separated from the shield can also serve as a whisk, for which purpose it is expediently extended at the locations of the drinking straw openings.

This band-shaped ice holder 21 can end in a slightly notched tip 24 for attaching a slice of fruit, e.g. a lemon slice 25, a cocktail cherry or the like.

The above description is only a preferred embodiment. The device according to the innovation can also be manufactured as a U-shaped injection-molded part in the position of use with a tongue bent at a predetermined angle or with a flexible tongue, in which case, however, the claws should be kept flexible in order to adapt to glasses of different thicknesses.
