Abstract
Se describe un proceso para fusion directa de un material de alimentacion metalifero. Los oxidos de hierro son parcialmente reducidos en un estado solido en un recipiente de pre- reduccion. Los oxidos de hierro parcialmente reducidos son fundidos hasta hierro fundido en un recipiente de fusion directa, que contenga un bano de hierro y escoria fundidos y al que se suministra un material carbonaceo solido como una fuente de reduccion y de energia y un gas que contenga oxigeno para post-quemar monoxido de carbono e hidrogeno generados en el recipiente. La etapa de fusion directa genera unos gases de desprendimiento que contienen azufre y los gases de desprendimiento liberados del recipiente de fusion directa. Solamente parte de los gases de desprendimiento liberados del recipiente de fusion directa son usados en la etapa de pre-reduccion para pre-reducir oxidos de hierro en el recipiente de pre-reduccion. Solamente parte de los gases de desprendimiento se usan en la etapa de pre-reduccion a fin de controlar la cantidad de azufre que retorna con los oxidos de hierro parcialmente reducidos al recipiente de fusion directa.
