AI used to be good.

AI started out strong so I purchased a year subscription. Big mistake. it burns through credits 4 times faster now and makes more mistakes than it helps. Every update is AI, AI, AI and very little work on the core software anymore.

Terrible policy and awful RAM consumption. Switching to VS Code.

Terrible company and a perfect example of toxic corporate behavior. They completely cut off access to developers based on location, turning their backs on the community. It doesn't matter if you want to use a non-commercial version — they will block you with zero care.On top of their trash geopolitical policy, WebStorm has become incredibly bloated. It unreasonably consumes a massive amount of RAM and performs poorly compared to modern tools. There is absolutely no reason to deal with their restrictions for such an unoptimized piece of software.I am switching my entire workflow to VS Code and never coming back to JetBrains. Absolute garbage.

Awesome IDEs

Love their IDEs, especially Pycharm. Much better design and more features compared to competitors. Free for personal use.

I love intellij idea. It's one of the best IDEs out there. I've been a customer of Jetbrains for over a decade, starting with a free student license and upgrading to ultimate eventually.

It's not all smooth sailing all the time, but they're quick to address any annoying regressions or new bugs.

I paid for an ultimate subscription…

I paid for an ultimate subscription about a month ago, and they refuse to give me the activation key. In addition, I have to force quit the application 15 times a day. Thieves and garbage products.

Was once clearly the best IDE out there. Now PhpStorm has more bugs than ever. Every update introduces more issues.

In my case the software is completly broken all few days. Always need to reinstall. Already asked for a refund for all the days I can't work.

JetBrains markets its AI tools like…

JetBrains markets its AI tools like they’re industry-leading, but the reality doesn’t match the hype. I subscribed expecting a powerful, reliable coding assistant — instead, I got inconsistent suggestions, limited usefulness, and a credit system that runs out quickly without delivering real value.

What’s worse is their rigid “no refund” policy on AI subscriptions. Even if the product clearly doesn’t meet expectations or goes largely unused, they refuse to offer any flexibility. That’s not customer-focused — it’s just locking users into a disappointing experience.

For a company known for premium developer tools, this feels like a step backwards. The core IDEs are solid, but the AI offering isn’t ready to justify its cost, and the support experience only makes things worse.

Until they improve both the product and their approach to customers, it’s hard to recommend JetBrains AI to anyone expecting real value.

After 10+ years as a loyal customer, dropped over a small refund

After 10+ years as a loyal customer, dropped over a small refund
I have been a JetBrains customer for more than 10 years, paid for multiple licenses, and as an IT service provider I have recommended their tools to clients and colleagues countless times.
After cancelling my JetBrains AI subscription, I asked for a refund of the additional Top-up AI Credits I had purchased – credits that were demonstrably unused and that I have no way of consuming without an active subscription. The reply: two sentences, a reference to clause 3.4 of the AI Credit Terms ("non-refundable"), no flexibility, no goodwill, no engagement with the context or the customer history.
For a company that likes to position itself as developer-friendly, this is a remarkably cold signal. It is the point at which I will let all my remaining subscriptions expire and stop recommending JetBrains. A real shame after all those years.

Claude via JB AI Assistant freely uses slurs

I have been a life long JB customer. I loved JB developer tools. They released an AI assistant and it called me an ableist slur. It was very hurtful. No other AI products have that problem that I have used. This should not be released to the public. They take no responsibility, have poor communication and customer service. I refuse to be called that word ever again. They have lost my business and trust.

Fall from Grace

Save your money and pick another IDE or even just roll with a text editor. Yes, you end up with a heavy experience when you use plugins to approximate what JB IDEs offer, but they just aren't worth it anymore. I paid for 4 years for an all products pack and watched as over time their software just became slow and unwieldy.

This used to be the go to company for IDE products. I would get entire teams of 20 or more people on board with them. However, I can no longer recommend this. Even on juiced up, DDR5 machines with crazy CPU power, their IDEs are just slow and bloated. I don't know what happened at JetBrains. Some people blame the AI, but I think (note: speculate) that it has more to do with an under-resourced development team and an executive team that's more interested in maximizing ROI for themselves these days. Slow bug fixes, features that take a long time to reach EAP, only to end up being buggy when launched to production...The signs of over financialization are all there.

Student License

As a student it is the best to start out if you have the chance to use the Pro License for free. I can just recommend it and been using it for more than 5 years now with no major complaints or major crashes that where their fault. Product support is also very nice.

Less than Zero score

I’d have given it a zero score if you had such a thing. I signed up for the trial and got 36 credits on the Kineto App development site.

The app I started to build was a language learning one. The audio didn’t work. After four sets to prompts from and re writes from Jet Brain the audio still didn’t work. Pretty key since the app is
Meant to be audio learning only. So I sent it a link to a YouTube channel which does teach by audio only. It pirates the channel. Chops it up. Sends it back to me uncredited AND, you guessed it - the audio still doesn’t work.
Clearly a scam to get you sign up for a regular subscription which probably won’t have AUDIO either!

JetBrains AI Pro is a no go

I bought a one year License for one year (AI assistance).
I hardly can use it:
80 of the 100 times:
"Request failed: Request Entity Too Large (AI Server)."

That costs me credits and this way I don't get assistance at all.

Expensive and not helpfull

Reliable IDEs for Long-Term Use

I’ve been using JetBrains products for about 6 years, and in my opinion, they are excellent development tools.

With many other IDEs, you often spend a significant amount of time not only on development but also on configuration and environment setup — which can be fine in some cases.

However, with JetBrains tools, you can simply focus on your work instead of constantly configuring the environment. That’s a huge advantage for productivity.

Very Poor Customer Support

I bought I 2 year license from them, only not to receive the code, then had an educational license applied. I've lost 6 months of subscription time and cannot speak to anyone by phone.

Their email is condescending at best and they simply do not listen nor empathise. Regardless of their software. Their attitude stinks.

JetBrains is on a downwards slope and unlikely to recover

JetBrains is on a downwards slope in my opinion.
They used to be the go-to platform but it's becoming a pile of garbage now.
Forget major upgrades, even minor versions introduce breaking changes and bring the IDEs to a slow crawl.
The AI is a second-class citizen, the IDEs are sluggish and slow, and working on Windows with WSL integration is becoming a nightmare with these IDEs.
I'm becoming more tempted to jump ship with each new "upgrade" released by the company.

Their software doesn't work.

Their software doesn't work.

I had to use it for a class and halfway through, I switched to VS. The JUnit testing framework in particular is very clunky and difficult to configure. I would rather use a product that works, thanks.
