This company is a joke. I got the Dive Card Basic for my son after he qualified for his PADI so that he could dive for leisure. After two years and because he was no longer diving, we cancelled the payments. They sent us letters over the post during the summer period when we were not at home asking for the payment of the next term. We informed them we wanted to cancel the policy, following the instructions on their online portal. We received an automated confirmation that our cancelation had been received (6th Sep 2025). Another letter arrived via the post on Sep 22nd demanding payment, charging us a late fee, and threatening court action if we did not paid by September 15th!!
In the meantime, my son had sent them numerous emails to which he only received automated responses. Due to their lack of communication or acknowledgement of our correspondence, I resolved to pay them the outstanding fee. I did so following the instructions they sent us in their letters. They returned my payment saying that they did not know which person this was to be allocated to, despite having used the Customer number as instructed!!
We still don't know if they received my second payment, or our numerous attempts to cancel.
Stay well away from this company!!!!!

PLEASE AVOID.
This is fraudulent - I wish I have read other people's review prior to taken the insurance with them. I was diving on a boat and was told I need an insurance, and thought this was a standard insurance so I chose Aqua med.
Well I was naive. Please be aware that you will get charged even after your contract ends with them. Luckily my credit card on file was expired so they could not charge me the full amount, but was very persistent in demanding me paying for the services that I did not agreed to nor did I pay for. I refused to pay out of principal, for me that's just the money for a couple of coffees. But it is the principal that matters. They then threat me that I will no longer be entitled with their services (no sh*t, I said I want to cancel) then they threat for court. How can you enforce something unilaterally, despite that I've made very clear I do not wish to have their services, nor did I use their services during which I did not pay for? It's shameless to the least.

Like many others here, I was scammed by aquamed. In my case, I emailed them in plenty of time to cancel ahead of renewal, yet they ignored my communications and sent me a mildly threatening letter demanding autorenewal payment. There is no way to cancel a renewal with this company. I will never insure with Aquamed again.

I am extremely disappointed with Acqua Med Insurance and their Dive Card Professional product. In November, I encountered an issue that should have been straightforward to handle. Now, seven months later, the problem remains unresolved. Despite numerous attempts to get assistance, the company has been unresponsive and unhelpful.
I have been a loyal customer for 8 years, but in the moment of need, their customer service is abysmal, showing a complete lack of empathy and urgency. They have repeatedly refused to honor my claim, citing flimsy excuses. It feels like they are doing everything possible to avoid paying what they rightfully owe.
This has been an incredibly frustrating experience. I would not recommend Acqua Med Insurance to anyone. Save yourself the headache (and money) and look elsewhere for coverage.

Never again is a kind of scam with the contract! If you will not resign at specific 1 day(no earlier no later) - you will be renewed!!!!!

These guys are something else. A letter is suppose to be issued summarising the new cost for the year at least 30 days before auto renew, none was ever received. The contract is for a year and not forever, however they seem to get you on the autorenew each year even though I don't dive anymore. They keep threating with letters and courts for 149 euros, good luck. Let go to court and see what happens

I am really happy about the customer services of aqua med. They are so friendly and patiently! My login of the customer portal doesn't work, so I send them an e-mail. I get my answer very quickly. After this they called me to assure, that everything is fine. Thumbs up for this service!

Bunch of skunks
They’ll auto renew without warning and threaten legal action if they can’t collect.
There’s no statuatory 14 day warning or 14 day cooling off period you’d get under UK law.
I’ve given them 11 months notice now I don’t want to renew in 2022….presumably that’s enough? Watch this space
There are other dive insurers…..

Beware Aqua Med
Warning these guys will automatically renew your policy unless you give then a minimum 2 weeks written notice in advance. There is no flexibility and they will send you letters threatening collection fees if payment is not made for an insurance product. You cannot cancel either online. This is all under German Law - beware!

I have to disagree with what people have said so far. And wow – the tone here is really harsh.
If I enter into a contract with a company from another country and don't know what practices they have, that's kinda my fault for not being informed, isn't it? I personally set a reminder in my phone to cancel contracts that I dont want to keep. Anyway…
When I got sick on holiday, the doctors and staff from aqua med were great! They got me to a good hospital, explained what was happening medically, they handled the bill with the hospital so I did not have to pay a thing and they rebooked my flight. I would have felt kinda overwhelmed if I hadnt had them. So I'll stick with em for sure.
Bunch of money and blood sucking bats. Would never get insured with them again.

I too have had bad experience with AquaMed's auto renewal procedure. There is no notification. This first you know of it is when money goes from your account, or you get a demand letter requesting payment. No partial cancellation is entertained and the whole year payment is expected.
I cannot comment on claims as I have not had to make one, but if the claims department is anything like the membership department, expect a difficult process.
Aqua Med is soulless and could start by embracing some values and ethics. They also have a very sneaky approach to when they request money from you. Besides, on this COVID-19 year, after informing them that my diving business had gone down, and I literally had no income, they called a gesture of goodwill downgrading my contract to the Basic option and "only" charging me 59 euros. When I told them that I was not diving and had absolutely no need for a diving insurance, they gave me the option of suing me in court. It's in exceptional times that companies show their true colours.
I would echo Paul's review above about my experience dealing with Aqua Med.
I had the 12 month Dive Basic product. I did not have the need to make an insurance claim so I cannot comment on that experience, however I can comment on the renewal and cancellation process.
1st negative experience
After 12 months, they tried to take payment from me with no prior notice of the pending automatic annual renewal. I received a message that payment had failed as the payment details they had on file were for my old credit card.
2nd negative experience
I contacted them to request that the contract be cancelled as I do not wish the insurance to be renewed for another year. The response was to hide behind German contract law, that automatic annual renewal is legitimate, and that I signed up for that with the insurance product. They have no cancellation/cooling-off period for customers who do not wish to renew.
3rd negative experience
Their accounts team sent me a letter threatening collection fees if payment is not made for an insurance product that I do not wish to continue.
I did not have to make a claim during my year with them, so I comment on the efficacy of their claims team, however dealing with their customer services and accounting teams have given me little confidence in them.
Be aware of what you are signing up for if you choose their service, and set a calendar reminder a few weeks in advance if you do not wish to get caught out by the automatic annual renewal.
I will be avoiding them in future.

WARNING ALL INSTRUCTORS!! HOLY SCAM!!! AQUAMED LEFT ME IN THAILAND TO DIE!!!
I have been an instructor for years and Never had a Problem with DAN insurance..
AquaMed is the WORST EVER! I got severely hurt in Thailand and was needing emergency surgery. Aquamed found some crazy loophole way to get out of helping me even though I was paying them to insure me!
It is only by the grace of God and a lot of luck that I survived. I would not buy this insurance if my life depended on it.... because it did and they found a way out instead of doing what I paid for.

I purchased a 12 dive insurance policy through Aquamed's Dive Card Basic product and whilst I cannot comment on the actual insurance (As I had no need to use it), I have found the company very difficult to deal with.
The company is based in Germany and it's practices are apparently based on German standards and not those common in the UK. When you purchase the card, for 12 months, you are actually entering into an ongoing policy which is renewed every year. Unlike the UK, the renewal is automatic and without reminder and if you want to leave you must give 2 weeks notice prior to the end of your term otherwise they will charge you in full.
Having had long conversations with their customer services representatives, they are not at all forgiving and hide behind the 'you signed the contract' and 'it's German law/practices'. If you pay on a debit card, they also keep all the card data on hand to take money from your account without requiring any further permission from you.
Aquamed's stance of hiding behind contract law etc, would not now fill me with any kind of confidence with regards to how they would deal with any potential claim and therefore, I will not be staying with them past my contractually obliged second year.
If you do decide to opt for their service, I would advise you to read all the T' & C's in details and call them to question anything you are unsure of or find ambiguous. I would also mark your next years calendar with the renewal date so that you don't get caught out.
Personally, I would stay clear and use a different provider.
Happy Diving
