Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 277 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently encountered unexpected extra fees and high deposit charges that were completely omitted from the initial online pricing. Many people felt heavily pressured at the desk to purchase expensive additional insurance options to secure their cars. Consumers also experienced serious problems with vehicle conditions, including cleanliness issues and preexisting scratches leading to unfair damage claims. However, some people were entirely satisfied with the service, noting that staff members were exceptionally friendly and professional. These reviewers also greatly appreciated receiving clean, brand-new vehicles along with smooth, straightforward check-in and drop-off processes.

My experience with Wheego Bulgaria was very disappointing.

My experience with Wheego Bulgaria was very disappointing.

After returning the car without any issues, my €800 deposit was not returned within the timeframe communicated by the company. Multiple emails, calls, and WhatsApp messages were largely ignored, and no clear explanation was provided.

Only rent from this company if you are comfortable potentially chasing your deposit for weeks or months. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.

Worst Car Rental "Company"

Worst experience I've ever had with a car rental company. They charged my credit card 1400 EUR with 1200 of that being a fuel and potential damages deposit. The rental cost was just over 200 EUR and they took a deposit of 6 times the amount. I was assured that I would receive the money back within 5 days of returning the car. That was 2 months ago and I've received nothing back. I also wasn't allowed to see the car for myself before being made to sign the paper confirming the cars condition. When I returned the car, the man claimed that there was damage to the car. He suddenly "found" the damages after asking where I was from and finding out that I wasn't German. I received an email with the photos of the supposed "damage", but never received a final bill. Instead, this "company" kept all the deposit money in the hopes that I was only passing through and wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Save yourself a lot of headache and money and rent a car somewhere else. Wheego is more criminal than company.

I booked a rental car with Orbitz from WHEEGO

I booked a rental car with Orbitz from Miami and paid for 10 days with my American credit card. 11 days rental from Vienna airport.
I arrived at the WHEEGO counter and was denied the car because I only had an American drivers license.
I am renting cars in Vienna and other European countries for 40 years and never had problems to get the rental car with my American drivers license.
But the worst part is that Wheego refuses to refund the payment and Orbitz is not helping either.
I went to the next counter Europcar and after 30 minutes was driving out the garage with a car with my American drivers license.
I am loosing hundreds of US$ for the rental I did not receive and for the additional insurance i signed up with Orbits.
Worse experience ever. Avoid Wheego. Horrible disappointment.

Worst experience with car rental

Unfortunately, my overall experience with Wheego was disappointing.

The representative at the rental desk was late, which was already frustrating after arriving at the airport. I then encountered several issues with the payment requirements. My American Express card was not accepted, and two valid Mastercard credit cards were also refused because my name was not physically printed on the front of the cards. I was also told that a debit card could not be used.

As many banks no longer issue cards with the cardholder’s name printed or embossed on the front, this is a very specific requirement that should be communicated clearly before the booking is completed. Because none of my cards were accepted, I was left with no practical alternative but to pay 500 PLN extra in order to receive the car.

The car itself was also below expectations. It had an unpleasant smell, and we later found an old kabanos left inside the vehicle, which explained part of the odor. The overall condition and quality of the car were not particularly good either.

I understand that staff may be following company procedures, but the combination of unclear payment requirements, the additional unexpected cost, the late service at the desk, and the poor condition and cleanliness of the vehicle made the experience feel unprofessional.

I would strongly recommend that Wheego improve both the clarity of its payment/deposit requirements and the standard of vehicle preparation before handover.

5* experience with Wheego at Birmingham…

5* experience with Wheego at Birmingham Airport 31 July to 17 August 2026 has been superb (as was my hire in January/February this year). The staff are very helpful, respectfull, arrive on-time both at collection and return. I certainly recommend them at the Birmingham location.

Absolute scammers

Absolute scammers - Avoid Avoid Avoid - look at all 91% 1 star reviews on Trust Pilot, which I unfortunately did not read before I hired with Wheego via Ryan Air. Rental was changed to myself from my husband - all through Ryan Air, confirmation emails printed. On arrival they told me they could not give us the car as Ryan Air had not updated the name- on the booking (even though I had the new updated emails)!UNLESS I paid hundreds of Euros. After 3 hours of complaining and trying to speak to Ryan Air we were forced to pay, as we were totally stuck. Then they would only let us hire if we paid extra and took their own insurance - extra €195 for 4 days. Appalling Company why Ryan Air use them is beyond me!!

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible. A little chip less than the size of a pencil eraser on the passenger door handle and even with the insurance that was forced upon me to get, I am getting billed 400 euros in excess. I made the mistake of not taking a video when I first got the car and now I’m paying for it because I know for a fact that I didn’t cause this.

1 Star

1 Star - I do NOT recommend this company

One of the worst companies I have dealt with, both in terms of customer service and vehicle rental.

The vehicle provided was filthy on collection and had multiple bumps and scrapes. It was also not the model that was advertised / that I had ordered.

The car was supplied with minimal fuel, yet despite returning it with more fuel than it had on collection, I was charged for fuel.

I was also charged for what was clearly a polishable scratch. Their own Terms and Conditions state that polishable scratches will not be charged. I was threatened with losing my deposit if I did not pay this charge.

After multiple emails trying to resolve these issues and claim through my insurance, the company has not replied, other than to apply a further charge of £80 administration fee plus the cost of a parking fine (£100+). This is despite me providing evidence that the parking in question was paid for in advance, as instructed by staff at the venue.

Overall, very poor communication and questionable charging practices. I would strongly advise others to avoid renting from this company.

If you have the options take them

Car was good but everything else was terrible, I should have learnt my lesson after the first time renting. I won’t be renting from them again.
When being collected at Birmingham airport you have to make your way to the airport train station with your luggage to be collected in a car so good luck if we have worked out a car hire with exact number of passengers and luggage with no spare room. There was the offer of me leaving my daughter at the station to go do the paperwork and pick her up after I had finished!! I had to navigate the luggage space myself to ensure no one was left behind.
Had a bump with another car and they told the other vehicle I wasn’t insured and I would need to pay for the repair myself! (Not true, I made sure I followed all protocol given and hope they pay the woman)
They give you a postcode to drop the car back off but no other details so be prepared to drive around calling a number that no one picks up as there is only 1 person in the office. Then be prepared for the paperwork to take ages on drop off (once you’ve tracked down the location) and then be asked if you need a lift to the airport!!! Then you need to wait 20 mins for the driver to arrive for your transfer as he’s stuck in traffic! How they are only 5 mins from the airport train station and had my drop off time, I ended up getting a taxi at my own expense so I didn’t miss my check in.
I was assured I will be reimbursed for my taxi but I won’t hold my breath.

Worst car rental experience ever

Worst car rental experience ever
0 stars, Kaunas, Lithuania.
The rental company accused us of causing damage to the car, specifically a small mark on the fuel cover, and immediately charged us almost €1,000 without first asking whether we had any photos or evidence. Fortunately, we were able to prove that the damage already existed before we rented the vehicle.
The dispute was extremely difficult to resolve. The company demanded photos with metadata and only accepted our evidence after a long exchange of emails. However, they still refused to return our deposit.
They then changed their claim and alleged that the car had been returned extremely dirty inside and required professional chemical cleaning. This was simply not true. We sent photos showing that we had washed the exterior of the car, as required by the rental agreement. The vehicle was only used for approximately two hours during a four-day rental period, primarily for transportation between the airport and a family residence and was otherwise not used.
The company provided only one low-quality photo of a dirty seat with a date printed on the image. The seat did not even appear to belong to our vehicle. When we requested the original photo with metadata, they were unable to provide it.
After nearly three months of discussions and approximately 60-70 emails, we consulted a lawyer and were prepared to take legal action. Our lawyer believed we had (and still have) a strong case. Eventually, the rental company offered a settlement: we would pay €130 for the alleged cleaning, and the case would be closed.
We accepted the settlement only to end the dispute, not because we agree that the car was left dirty.
Based on our experience, the entire process felt highly questionable. First, we were charged for pre-existing damage, and when that claim could not be supported, a new claim regarding cleaning was introduced.
In our view, this was a total scam. We suspect that other customers may also be charged for the same tiny scratch, and if they can prove the damage was pre-existing, the company may look for other reasons to retain deposits or impose additional charges.
We strongly recommend not to rent at this company.

This company is some type of scam or…

This company is some type of scam or something and should be investigated! Rented a car for one day that when I picked up was so dirty I couldn't see through the windshield. tank was completely empty with it fuel light on and I had to go straight to the gas station. Then when I return the car the guy went over the car like he was buying a brand new Ferrari for himself not exaggerating at all literally took him 10 minutes to examine the car wiping his hands on all of the glass trying to feel for next and taking about 20 to 25 pictures of the wheels under the front bumper rear bumper and all around the car. Then he says there is a small three inch scratch on the top back center of the rear bumper where he said it looked like someone scratched it loading our unloading a bag. I only had the car for one day and had no large luggage and told him there is no way that came from me and I would not have been able to see it to Mark it when I picked up the car anyway because the car was so dirty. When I got the copy of my bill later that night they had charged me just under $600 for the scratch! Do not rent from them ever!

Awful company - avoid

Avoid, avoid, avoid. Awful experience so far. We arrived early and they charged €30 a day for the same class of car or were told to come back 5 hours later. Surly, arrogant and rude counter staff. They also charged an additional €63 for using a different ride card to the one I booked. Taken a very detailed video and lots of photos of the car on pick up - expecting they will try to rip us off with damaged when we leave. Stand by for another review. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Never again

Never again, they took £928 from my account as security because of such made-up insurance. They told me that if nothing was wrong with the car, they would keep or I could pay £100 non-refundable. When I returned the car, the person took the keys, got me to sign, and said all was ok nothing was wrong. It was the same as when they gave less than the KMs that I drove. Only to find out they took £54 with no explanation

Never rent from this company

Never rent from this company. I left a car back with zero damage. I was in a rush for a flight and did not have time to get them to inspect and sign off the return document. A week later I get a large claim for small damage. I had seperate insurance; but cannot get the required documentation from Wheego. No response to emails, and impossible to get an answer to a phonecall.

Wheegoo Vilnius / Hidden 170 EUR cost

Wheegoo Vilnius / Hidden 170 EUR cost
We have rented a car via enjoytravel.com with a very reasonable price.
There was no problem and before the return I have washed the vehice from outside to avoid any trouble. We have left the car in the early morning at Wheegoo without any damage, dust, with full fuel. After this happened 1,5 weeks they locked 170 EUR in my card without any notification. I have asked them for the reason and they have send me two picture that the cars condition was dirty and they had to do a special in and out cleaning. I have shared a 360 degrees video of return condition and they have asked why it has not dried...Now I asked them to share more info, documentation, invoices, etc. but they have never answered.
Now I have started the chargeback with my bank and I have written to the European Consumer Authority with my story. Avoid this company anytime.

"Never rent a car with this company

"Never rent a car with this company, especially in Bulgaria. They haven’t returned our 1,200-euro deposit since May for a car rental that was not well-maintained at all. They gave us a thousand problems over a half-centimeter scratch invented by their receptionist. Despite having insurance for this situation, they don’t inform us about anything. I have sent 25 emails and WhatsApp messages to different addresses without a single reply. We have reported the company for fraud in Bulgaria. Never rent a vehicle with them because their policy is to hold your money or not return it. It is unbelievable that this company is allowed to operate, let alone in European countries."
