Avoid at all costs.
Avoid at all costs.
They are literally trying to find every possible excuse not to reimburse you. Even if you’ve been a loyal policyholder for years and have made very few claims, the moment you actually need them, they’ll look for reasons to deny your claim or even cancel your policy.
They refused to reimburse my CT scan and even my blood tests, despite these being clearly included in their preventive care package. It’s written in black and white in their own policy, yet they still try to avoid paying.
Their entire approach feels designed to find loopholes and avoid honoring legitimate claims. The goal seems simple: don’t reimburse customers whenever possible.
I’ll be looking for another insurer and warning others in my digital nomad community. I would never want to deal with this company again.
The monthly premium simply isn’t worth it. Save yourself the frustration and choose a company that actually stands behind its promises.

Really nice service
Really nice service. Not a single problem. Good communication. Easy to handle any issue. Fast and convenient.
I was considering purchasing…now I'm not.
I was considering purchasing international health insurance from Genki and contacted them with two straightforward underwriting questions before applying.
The first was how a diagnosed medical condition should be categorised within their medical questionnaire. The second was how Genki generally treats situations where a fully disclosed pre-existing condition later develops into a more serious condition, such as cancer.
Neither question sought medical advice or a coverage determination. I was simply trying to understand how the policy and underwriting process work before committing to a purchase.
Unfortunately, the experience was poor.
Responses were slow, often delayed, and initially consisted of generic scripted replies that failed to address the question being asked. It took multiple follow-ups before the matter was finally escalated to underwriting.
Both questions were accepted for review and I was told I would receive a response via email.
More than seven days later, I have received nothing.
No answer.
No update.
No estimated timeframe.
For an international health insurer, underwriting questions relating to pre-existing conditions and cancer are not edge cases. They are exactly the sort of questions prospective customers should be able to ask before purchasing a policy.
If Genki cannot provide answers to reasonable underwriting questions before a policy has been purchased, it does not inspire confidence in how they would handle more serious matters after one has.
I would be happy to update this review if Genki eventually provides the answers that were requested.

Misleading payment communication and blocked account
Very disappointing experience with Genki.
I wanted to purchase a new insurance policy, but my account was blocked due to an old outstanding invoice. Support told me: “If you settle the €14, your account is cleared.”
Based on that message, I paid the €14. However, after payment, they did not actually clear my account for a new policy. Instead, I was told that reinstatement was still under review.
This is misleading. I paid because I was led to believe the issue would be resolved, but the payment did not solve the actual problem. Support has also been slow and unclear.
I expected a simple solution: pay the outstanding invoice and buy a new policy. Instead, I lost time, paid money, and still had no insurance when I needed it.
I would not use Genki again.

I have been covered for 2 years with…
I have been covered for 2 years with Genki Explorer and have only positive experience. The insurance covered all claimed outpatient treatments for some cold, allergy from insect bites and the inflammation. I have been diagnosed with urachal sinus just one month before the end of coverage, the operation and inpatient stay are being covered as well. I'm happy with the coverage and apprecitate the help of the assistants, I had a lot of questions and got the replies within a few hours every time. Planning to switch to Genki Native plan to stay covered by them.
They sound so good at first
They sound so good at first! Offer very cheap health insurance rates! The only problem is they are not an Insurance Company! Secondly, good luck with Claims Payments! You get what you pay for in this life! Buyer be ware!
P.s. Anybody can sell their policies! You don’t even have to be a Licensed Agent!
Genki replied! Great!
1. Squarelife is Not an Insurance company!
2. Genki allows ANYBODY to sell their “ so called insurance “ without any need to be a Licensed Agent! Clearly stated on their website! They are always looking for anybody to sell their “ insurance “!
3. They have no phone support ! Only texts and emails!
4. Good Luck with Claims payments!
5. They are only good at sleek marketing!

ACL/MCL/Meniscus Injury
Recently tore almost everything in my knee, ACL/MCL/Meniscus and more. Genki has been there from the beginning. My claims from the emergency room and consulation so far have been processed and i'm working on the surgery, but zero worries from my side. Communication has been amazing so far!
Traveling around can get complicated…
Traveling around can get complicated with negotiating processes in different countries. I identified a concern and Genki walked me through with not just suggestions but the actual steps to take. I don't feel so alone. Thank you Genki 🙏
Absolutely horrible experience
Absolutely horrible experience.
I paid for Genki, and then a few days into it I froze it for 90 days because I wasn't sure if I was going to need it due to changes in my travel plans.
90 days later (policy was still in that frozen period) I tried to cancel as I would no longer need the service.
Not only did they NOT let me cancel, they threatened LEGAL action and to go after my credit if I did not pay for the next 12 months... Even though I had never even been under their coverage as again, I froze my policy before it started (deferred start date)
Communicating with them is next to impossible and they kept saying it was because in German time it was already the start of the policy (a technicality of a few hours)
Absolutely horrible and predatory service and I could not recommend them to absolutely anyone.
If I could give less then 1 star I would.

While I thankfully never had to use my insurance, I was very pleased to have it with Genki. Communication was always very easy!

Excellent Support & Great Coverage
I had an excellent experience with the customer support team. All of my questions were answered promptly, kindly, and very professionally. The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout the process.
On top of that, the coverage for long-term travelers is outstanding and offers great peace of mind. I can highly recommend their service!
A 7-Day Bureaucratic Nightmare - Avoid if you are a Digital Nomad!
If you are a digital nomad looking for reliable health insurance, do yourself a massive favor and look for alternatives. Do not waste your time with Genki.
I am a perfectly healthy 18-year-old who wanted to become a customer. Instead, I was dragged through a 7-day ordeal of sheer incompetence, generic copy-paste responses, and a completely broken customer support loop, all because of a simple, honest mistake on their application form.
Here is exactly what happened:
The Mistake: I had a minor, preventative knee procedure 13 months ago. I am completely healed, active, and require no medication or treatment. While filling out the medical questionnaire, I tried to be 100% transparent and accidentally checked a box implying I was still experiencing symptoms. My application was immediately automatically rejected.
The Nightmare Begins: I immediately contacted support to explain the misunderstanding and asked to simply reset the form or manually review my case. I was blocked from reapplying by their system.
Passed Around Like a Hot Potato: Over the course of a week, I dealt with FOUR different support agents (Jets, Isaac, Jomarie, and Andreia). Nobody actually read my messages or applied any common sense. Every single time, I was told the issue was "escalated" to their insurer (Squarelife) and to wait 24-48 hours.
Ignored SLAs: 48 hours turned into 5 days of absolute silence. When they finally got back to me, they completely ignored everything I had spent the week explaining.
Absurd Demands: Instead of letting me correct a wrongly clicked box, they demanded a formal written clearance from a doctor for an "injury" that never existed (it was an elective ligament release, completely resolved).
The Final Straw: When I explained for the hundredth time that a doctor's note doesn't apply to my situation and begged them to just let me resubmit the application correctly, their response was to "escalate" it again for another 24-48 hours.
My conclusion: If Genki’s communication is this abysmally slow and robotic when you are trying to give them your money, imagine the absolute horror you will face if you are stranded in a foreign country with an actual medical emergency. If they can't resolve a misunderstood question on a web form in 7 days, how can you trust them with your health?
To all digital nomads: Your health and time are too valuable. Go with an alternative provider that actually treats you like a human being and possesses basic problem-solving skills. Genki was a massive waste of 7 days. Avoid at all costs.

Flawless 5 months!
Seamless five months I needed the coverage. Chatted with customer service one time when I was possibly needed a hospital visit in Thailand and went just fine. Never needed to use any services but a lot of peace of mind for this nimad!!
I can't recommend them
I can't recommend them. They became very annoying over invoices, to the point that for 3 doctor visits, I need to ask for a medical report (pay actually because the doctors don't do it for free) to get a reimbursement. So I'm spending time and energy to try to find out how I can get my money back for quite simple doctor visits.
