OK...until you have a problem
My advice would be to AVOID dealing with Aegon. If you need anything from them that requires human interaction - requests, questions, problems, anything non-standard etc - then struggle and stress are headed your way. I would avoid the high blood pressure and find an organisation that is professional to deal with, rather than just professional on their website.
I include my experience below for anyone interested. It is fairly long so a summary would be: unresponsive, false promises, stress.
My experience:
A former employer started pension plans with Aegon for all their employees. I paid in to mine each month and was able to manage it through the (fairly attractive) user interface at Retiready.co.uk. So far so good.
A pension fund that I had paid in to whilst working for a different employer required me to transfer my money out of their fund, I was given 3 months to do so until I would be forced to accept a cash lump sum at a reduced rate. I thought that I would consolidate my funds in to the Aegon plan so I called them and waited 45 minutes to speak to an advisor. I should have realised at this point what was to come but I allowed myself to think that this was a good sign - there were a lot of calls because Aegon was so popular, and advisors were spending a lot of time talking to each client to give them comphrensive financial advice. The lady that I spoke to was very pleasant and helpful, she advised me that I should write a cover letter and send them the transfer pack given to me by my incumbent fund.
I sent off the material as advised and then 2 weeks later I received an email telling me that I would need to get financial advice before Aegon would accept the transfer. I emailed them back explaining that the law didn't require me to get financial advice and given the size of the amounts involved I couldn't find a financial advisor who was interested in helping. I never received a response to this email.
I called up to chase and waited an hour in their phone system. The lady I spoke to was extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for me, I wouldn't have been surprised if she offered to chip in to my plan out of her own money, nothing was too much trouble. She was going to get my transfer pack sent back to me by courier so I could transfer my funds to a different provider and she was going to send me an email immediately after our call.
I never received the email after our call and now nearly 1 month later, after further emails to their customer service team and to their complaints department, I still have not heard a thing back. Crucially, they still haven't returned the transfer pack put together by my other pension fund so I can't approach a different provider. They said they were getting DHL to deliver it back to me over 3 weeks ago... that would be the slowest courier firm ever if they are telling the truth.
When I finally get this mess sorted out I will be moving my funds away from Aegon quicker than you can say 'retiready'. I am sorry that I have ever been involved with them.
