Over ons

Tony’s Chocolonely is an impact company that makes chocolate, committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. And not just the cocoa in our chocolate, but in all chocolate worldwide. Tony's Chocolonely was founded in 2005 by 3 journalists from the Dutch TV show ‘Keuringsdienst van Waarde’ after they discovered that the world’s largest chocolate manufacturers were buying cocoa from plantations that used illegal labor. Since then, we've dedicated our efforts to raising awareness of and eliminating inequality in the cocoa industry, becoming the #1 chocolate brand in the Netherlands. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example and show the world that chocolate can be made differently: in taste, packaging and the way we do business with cocoa farmers. Starting with paying them a higher price. Alone, we’ll end exploitation in our cocoa supply chain, but together we can change the industry across the globe. That's why we invite everyone to join our commitment. 'Cause it's only together that we'll end exploitation in cocoa. • When you’ve got nothing but good news to declare: 😋 With your support, we raised over €12K for the Chocolonely Foundation through the Gebr. Heinemann x Tony’s Chocolonely travel retail-exclusive 8-pack initiative. * whooop whooop * In simple lingo + simple math: 🧮 €12,455 (total raised) / €1 (per pack) = a whopping 12,455 packs sold through this initiative. In case you missed it: 🙌 When we launched this initiative in 2025, we committed to donating €1 from every pack sold to the Chocolonely Foundation (that’s on top of the 1% of our annual revenue we - Tony’s Chocolonely - anyways donate). Foundation, watteh? 🍫 The Chocolonely Foundation supports projects and organizations that contribute to prosperous cocoa-growing communities in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, facilitate systemic change and challenge the status quo. That means every € from this initiative will go directly to improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their families. 💪 Heck yeah! What’s more: since it was such a great success, Gebr. Heinemann has committed to running the initiative for a whole 'nother year. 🥳 Talk about raising the bar, together! • We exist to end exploitation in cocoa, fighting poverty, child labor + deforestation. Fortune recognised that. 🍫   Tony's Chocolonely has been named on the 2026 Fortune Change the World list: 50 companies selected from roughly 200 for making real, measurable impact through their core business.   Here's what that impact looks like for us in the 2024/25 season:   🍫 We pay a price that enabled 32,133 cocoa farmers to earn a living income (58% more than the year before) 👧 813 children taken out of child labor 🌳 42,538 farms verified as deforestation-free 🤝 20+ Mission Allies now sourcing through Tony's Open Chain   We're proud. But we're not done. Not even close.   Our mission to fight exploitation in cocoa takes every cocoa sourcing company stepping up. Not for a season, but for the long haul. So here's our call: join Tony's Open Chain and help set a new norm in cocoa.   Because changing the world isn't something one company does alone. • Can you guess what Greyston Bakery’s awesomely good baked goods + our cocoa have in common? 👀 They both start with a simple question: Who gets left behind in the system? Greyston is best known for its pioneering Open Hiring model: no interviews, no resumes, no background checks. 🙌 Just an opportunity to work: “We don’t employ people to bake brownies; we bake brownies to employ people.” It doesn’t get any “batter” than that! Rising further to the occasion: Greyston joins Tony’s Open Chain, sourcing their cocoa through our supply chain, according to Tony’s Sourcing Principles. That means those beans are 100% traceable and farmers are paid a price that enables them to earn a living income for their families. Tickled your tastebuds? Come turn up the heat with us in the cocoa industry at Tony’s Open Chain! #IngredientSourcing #Cocoa #LivingIncome #TonysOpenChain

  • 🌳Ready for some hope-scrolling on the deforestation front? 👇 Years ‘n’ years of campaigning are (finally!) gonna pay off. 💪 ️The UK government is taking forward some seriously sweet legislation to tackle illegal deforestation. 🗞️ The new law: 🏢 Affects all UK businesses in forest risk commodities (like cocoa) with a £1m+ turnover 👩🏾⚖️ Holds them accountable for preventing illegal deforestation in their supply chains 📝 Frames a whole new regulatory regime (hello stronger UK Timber Regulation + forest-risk provisions in the Environment Act) In a cocoa shell: 🌱 This is a WIN for the future of our planet. Buuut there’s still lots to be done. The very real “legal deforestation” remains a serious concern.✊ And so the push for more change continues.. 🍫 You know what news also tastes goooood? Knowing Tony’s is ahead of the game – we already make all our choc from 99.9% deforestation-free cocoa. Choc-yeah! #londonclimateactionweek #endingdeforestation #deforestation

  • The # of kids going to Dutch primary schools? 🤔 About the same as those stuck in child labor in cocoa-growing households in Côte d’Ivoire + Ghana. 🧑🧑🧒🧒🚫 🚨 As you’re reading this – on #WorldDayAgainstChildLabor – there are 1.56 million kids* (!!!) harvesting the cocoa in many of your favorite choco. And 95% of them (~1.48 million*) are doing dangerous work in the fields.  Imagine kids in the Netherlands carrying cocoa instead of pencils + books.. Nobody would accept that, so nobody should accept this. Child labor is a clear violation of human rights and local laws, and still it’s chocolate’s bitter truth.  🏫 It’s easy to say, “those kids just need to go to school”. 📚 But the problem is much more complicated than that.. The root cause? Poverty. ’Cause for decades, millions of farmers have been underpaid for their cocoa, leaving them no choice but to turn to their kids for help on the farm. Tony’s exists to end this exploitation in cocoa, together with you. Bar by bar, bite by bite.  Until cocoa farmers earn a living income and their kids get to play, learn and dream BIG.  Are you with us? 🤝  *NORC Report, 2020, OCW, 2025 #worldchildlaborday #endchildlabor #childrights #educationforall #childrenfirst
