Literally the worst company I communicated with on my move away from Germany. Apparently leaving the country and no longer having a car are not reasons to consider a cancellation of a contract that auto renews in two two months time, because they only allow cancellations with a three month notice... WTF. Never in my 40 years experienced that kind of rule following. Leaves such a bad taste in the mouth.

26.8 - Update: After having supplied additional information requested by the customer service team, have not hear back anything at all. Initial review: I have generally had a very positive impression of ADAC and its services. In fact, I specifically chose the more expensive membership option because having the additional insurance coverage, including travel health coverage, was important to me.
I am a fairly pragmatic customer and would much rather write a compliment than a negative review. Unfortunately, my experience with the handling of a health insurance claim has simply not been acceptable.
I submitted the requested documentation with my original claim, including the medical documentation, hotel bills, boarding passes, payment information, and even the rental car I had booked through ADAC as additional proof of the trip. I later provided one additional document from the physician.
Despite this, I was asked again for documentation that had already been submitted. I responded and specifically asked the claims representative to tell me exactly what information or documents were supposedly still missing so that I could provide anything genuinely outstanding.
I never received a response.
I am a busy person, and this claim has already taken far more of my time than it reasonably should have. I provided the requested documentation, responded when contacted, and then specifically asked what else was needed. Receiving no response after that is not the level of service I expected, particularly when I deliberately chose and paid for the higher level of coverage.
I still like ADAC and what the organization offers, and I hope someone from the ADAC team will now take another look at this and help get the claim properly resolved.
I hope to hear from you soon so that I can provide the claim number privately. And if ADAC gets this straightened out, I will be very happy to come back and revise this review accordingly.

Their advertising? Top. Their service? To avoid! We called ADAC, an angry woman driver came to us from ADAC, and we asked her about our benefits but she refused everything we asked and even screamed at us. Not normal, and we pay the ADAC plus for many years already!

One of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had with a roadside assistance provider.
My family and I were on vacation in Paris. We are a German family, traveling with our car, my wife, our two children, and all of our luggage. Just as we were about to start our journey back home, we got a flat tire.
ADAC arranged for a towing vehicle to come. However, when it arrived, we were told that they were only there to take the car and were not responsible for transporting us. In other words, they were prepared to take our vehicle away and leave me, my wife, and our two children standing on the street in a foreign city with all our belongings.
What shocked me most was the complete lack of concern for our situation. No replacement vehicle was offered, no practical solution for continuing our journey was provided, and nobody seemed interested in how a family with two children was supposed to get home.
The irony is that the tire could have been repaired at a workshop practically around the corner. Instead of receiving meaningful assistance, I ended up handling the situation myself and paying for the repair out of my own pocket.
After this experience, I immediately cancelled my ADAC membership. The response I received was almost comical: ADAC removed me from the contract but somehow left my wife and children as members. After an incident where a family with two children was effectively left stranded, this response perfectly reflects the level of care and professionalism I experienced.
A roadside assistance organization should be judged by how it performs when you actually need help. In my case, ADAC failed completely.
If I could give zero stars, I would. One star is already far too generous.

Racist and super rude on the phone, no help even in emergency situation

The advertising made it seem like everything would be covered, but in reality that’s not the case.
There is a €50 deductible, which means if your medical costs are under €50, you get nothing back. Even if your bill is €80, they don’t cover the full amount — you only get €30 after the deductible. This is not clearly explained in the advertising.
Overall, this feels misleading. On top of that, the service is slow and not very responsive.
I would not recommend it if you expect full or straightforward coverage.

Over a week ago I left here a bad opinion regarding too low reimbursement despite having premium membership. They asked me for my contact details and membership number, I provided everything and they went silent. They are also not replying to any mails I'm sending separately. Customer service is a joke

ADAC membership is the most pointless thing you can do. You pay in heavily for 30 years, and then they refuse to pay for a minor €250 claim because you can't provide the required documentation (dental receipts). How is my wife, who has lived in Germany for three years, supposed to provide dental receipts when you have to wait about a year for an appointment? We'd be better off going to a doctor in her country where you can get an appointment right away and paying the few euros ourselves. And the reported claim was an emergency while on vacation in a completely different country; it has absolutely nothing to do with routine treatment. But now the clever ADAC is claiming that this emergency problem already existed, and since you can't provide medical receipts from a doctor in Germany, they won't pay. They won't even accept the cancellation of the recently renewed international travel health insurance, despite the right of withdrawal. I can only advise and warn everyone against having anything to do with this organization. 30 years of membership fees and supplemental insurance, and then this happens. Dear ADAC, let me say something about your letter of March 10, 2026! The "final step" is now the cancellation of my membership and all insurance policies I have with this pointless organization. I hope I won't be the only one! I gladly paid the €250 myself for this!

I had a car breakdown and contacted ADAC for help. They generated a token promising assistance within 180 minutes. I waited. And waited. And waited.
Not only did no one show up within the promised time, but no one even bothered to call, update, or check on us. Absolute silence.
I was stranded in freezing temperatures with my 4-year-old son. Anyone with basic human decency would understand how dangerous and stressful that situation is. ADAC clearly did not care.
This was not just poor service — it was negligence. When you advertise roadside assistance, people trust you in vulnerable situations. ADAC completely failed that responsibility.
What followed was such a nightmare that it would take pages to describe. This experience destroyed any confidence I had in ADAC. I would strongly warn families and parents in particular: do not rely on them when it actually matters.
Extremely disappointed and angry.

Customer service is non-existing. They never answer any questions you send to them and repeat 3 times. I have waited for a month now, changed the language in messaging to German but still nothing but automatic BS replies.
Looks like there is no other option than cancel the membership, that has been valid over 20 years.

Expensive, unclear policy, not responsive.
I would recommend HanseMerker for Health Insurance cases instead.

We had engine problems on the way to Bonn and had to pull over and call for assistance. At 13:06 the report was confirmed and were told to wait, help is on the way in a maximum of 2 hours. Called again after 2.5 hours and he was very helpful said to call back in 20 minutes if nobody shows up. I called back after 1 hour and a girl answered, hung up on me when she heard I wasn’t a native German speaker. Tried again, another lady- again no help. Again, another lady- no help. Again, a nice man who tried to help but had no answers unfortunately. We’re a family of 4 with two small toddlers, on the side of the motorway. Imagine. Finally the assistance arrives, at 7pm. He was a very nice man, confused why we were waiting so much time. As were we. Anyway we’ll be cutting any ties with this company!

A week ago, my car broke down on the German highway. I immediately called ADAC because the SOS phone wasn't working. I had a problem because I only speak English, and several times the woman who could hear English would immediately hang up. Finally, someone who spoke some English answered and took the call. He asked for my details and location. He said we would be given priority because we had a child with us. An hour passed and nothing. Another hour passed and nothing. I started calling again and again with the same problem, trying to find someone who spoke English. A nice woman answered and said she would help us, but to no avail. I also called the emergency number several times to ask the police to protect us because it was getting dark, and here comes the surprise again. After four hours on the highway with my wife and daughter, no one helped us. I called Finally, I contacted a German-based college, and they said it's impossible in Germany. It should take no longer than 20 minutes. Unfortunately, we're very disappointed with what happened. My friend hired a private company, which arrived within 45 minutes and towed us to the garage. Looking at the reviews of ADAC customers, nothing surprises me. The company is incompetent and not worth recommending. To this day, I haven't received a single phone call with an apology. Imagine the fear of a child standing on the highway for four hours in the dark, with trucks driving by.

Phoned ADAC, said they would send someone. Nearly 3 hrs later they phoned to say no one is coming , by that time it was night and I was lucky we were 3 women and I wasn’t alone! ADAC offered me 50€ for a taxi one way, a taxi home would cost 150€ at least. Next morning ADAC phoned again and said they have no one to help me because I am on an island (I know that, I’m stuck on it). I’m lucky I wasn’t alone, and could afford to get home but this could have been a dangerous situation. ADAC know the problems with islands or wherever so why don’t they put this in big print in their policies?? No compensation, no voucher, no ANYTHING certainly no“gelbe Engel” in any form. I have to get back to my car €€,find a mechanic €€, pay for the repair€. So, to the ADAC centrale YOU WERE TOTALLY USELESS.

My car insurance rose by more than 400€. I called many times to try to reduce my insurance to a reasonable amount and no one would help me. Avoid this company!!

They came with ~30 minutes, fixed our tire really quickly, and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
