Great experience

Abroad Internship was a perfect match for me. I did see some negative reviews, but my experience was honestly great. They really took the time to find a good match for me.

I had a hard time finding an internship abroad on my own because my portfolio wasn’t that strong yet, but they still managed to place me somewhere. And I have to say, it turned out to be a really good internship.

I learned a lot and gained valuable skills. They actually took the time to teach me things, which I really appreciated.

You also can’t expect every internship to be paid, especially if you’re still learning. In return, you get a once in- llifetime experience and skills you probably wouldn’t learn on your own or at school.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! 🌟

It means a lot to us to hear that we were able to find the right match for you — that's exactly what we strive for. We know it can be tough to land an internship abroad on your own, and we're so glad we could help open that door for you.

It's great to hear that your host company truly invested in your growth and taught you things you'll carry with you for a long time. That's the kind of experience we work hard to create for every student.

We completely agree — the skills, confidence, and memories you gain from an international internship are truly priceless. Wishing you all the best in the next chapter of your career! 🚀

It's wonderful to hear that your experiences hosting our interns have been so positive — that means a great deal to us. A good host company makes all the difference for our students, and it's clear you provide a fantastic environment for them to learn and grow.

We truly value our partnerships with companies like yours and look forward to continuing to work together. Here's to many more great matches ahead! 🌍

Got no internship even though I paid a deposit. They did not want to return the deposit even though they promised they would if they could not find an internship. Once your deposit is gone, it will be gone forever. No exceptions. That is the “abroad internships” experience.

Edit after response: I will not provide additional details as I have seen the owner of this company expose details of all their customers with negative reviews that I wish to keep. Moreover, somehow on the same date my review was posted, two 5 star reviews popped up. Seems a little fishy… It all says enough. Don’t do business with her.

Could you please let us know a bit more about your situation and perhaps your name, you only left one review on Trustpilot and give no real information.

We always have the agreement that if we do not find you a match, we refund, minus 95 euro in total. So this is something that just does not happen.

So please inform us about your situation and we can talk about this, as this is something we cannot do at the moment with this information.

Good morning Ilan,

I'm really sorry to hear that you feel this way about your experience with us. As you know, we placed you at an exciting company in Bangkok, and you accepted the position at the time. However, you later made the decision to withdraw and not move forward with the internship, which was, of course, your choice.

In terms of payments, you were charged a total of €695. Out of that amount, we refunded €445. The application fee wasn't refunded because the placement process had already been completed, and both you and the company had agreed on the internship. I hope this clears things up and helps you understand why we handled it this way.

Deposit is taking too long

They told me I would get my deposit within 7 days, then 10 days. 10 days have passed and I still didn’t receive it. I regret consulting them since they mostly offer unpaid internships, which I now see as a form of exploitation.

Hoi Lean,

We’re sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction, but we don’t feel this review accurately reflects the situation. After you applied with us, we quickly proposed a great internship opportunity in Tokyo within just two days. You even attended an interview and expressed enthusiasm for the position.

It’s true that the internship is unpaid, but we make it clear throughout our process that most internships abroad are, especially when the local language isn’t spoken fluently. This isn’t exploitation but rather the standard for internships abroad, as they are typically seen as part of a university program rather than traditional employment.

Regarding the refund, we’ve always communicated that it would be processed within 30 days. While we understand the frustration, the refund is still within the expected timeframe and will be issued soon.

We regret seeing a 1-star review over this, and we hope you understand our perspective.

Unprofessional

I sent them an email with my enquiry, they replied back with a lot of details, which I spent the time reading before scheduling the call with them. After I booked the call, the founder kept on asking me more probing questions. In the end, she didn’t attend the call! I waited for her 10 mins and sent her another email asking if she was joining the call. I haven’t heard back from her since. I am quite shocked and disappointed really, she might have thought I was going to be too much work for her team (as I am a graduate and I was interested in paid internships). If this is the case - fine, but maybe update your website, so no one loses their time..

Hello Oliwia, we are sorry to hear this but to be fair. You asked us for a service which we do not offer, I explained this to you as we are not a job board for employees but a student internship service. Therefore we explained that we are not able to help you and did also not schedule a call.

You have never been our customer and we think it is unfair to give out a 1 star when you could not apply as you are not a student looking for an internship.

Terrible experience, find a better company than Abroad Internships

Had exactly the same experience as my friend. See our experience below:

Me and a friend were really looking forward to finding an internship in Australia. When we experienced difficulties finding an internship ourselves, we decided to hire a professional to guide us through the process and find us a suitable internship on the following requirements: 1) the internship should be at the same company for both and 2) the internship should be arranged before the 31st of July 2023 (as we wanted to leave September 1st, 2023). We also highly encouraged Abroad Internships that a reimbursement of some sort would be favourable, in which they said this would be likely very possible.

On their website, it is stated a sum of EUR 235.00 should be deposited so Abroad Internships could consider a request serious. If an internship would be arranged, the rest of the money should be deposited. My friend made the deposit, so they could take our request serious, but that was not enough; I had to deposit the same amount, which I later did, altough I now know why I had to.

Long story short, we only got offered one internship assignment. We mentioned there would be a lot of constraints to the assignment as it might not fulfill all requirements set by the university. The deadline was removed since it took quite some time to communicate everything between Abroad Internships and our supervisors. That caused a study delay for both of us. In the meantime, Abroad Internships did not hesitate to find other internship options. When our internship request got declined by the University, it was November 2023. With a study delay of almost 3 months and no valid internship that was offered, we expected our deposit to be returned according to their guidelines.

While our request was still pending at the University, we asked if we could move on with finding housing and the right VISA in the meantime, as we were gaining study delays day after day. They later used this as a reason not to refund our money, because they said we “accepted” the internship. The funny thing is we never did -and were not even able to- as the University never accepted our request because the internship lacked quality.

TLDR: Paid EUR 235.00 (x2) to find an internship for me and a friend. We got offered one internship that lacked quality and therefore did not get accepted by our institution. We did not receive any refund.
Don’t do business with this company.

Hello Floris Speelman, the same reply as for Ruben can be given for you as you both had the same request and had the same outcome:

We are sorry about reading your review. Of course we are aware of the fact that you have not been happy with our collaboration, but in our opinion 1 star is not a fair review.

We have been working on the application of you both for a long time, the profile you presented has been very hard as you were both looking for an internship within the same company in Australia and for a short period of time. Most of the companies we are working with are looking for interns who can stay over 3 months. Therefore we needed a bit more time to find a position. We have discussed this with you as well.

During our proces you have the opportunity to close your profile and get a refund once an internship has not been found. In your case you had decided to give it a bit more time. You also did an interview with a company during that time, named ‘After’ in Melbourne, which you both liked. You have even done 2 interviews to discuss an interesting project you could both work on. This was the following:

Tasks: 1. Textiles Mechanical Recycling Machinery Research
* Get familiar with what Textiles Manufacturing involves using readily available information online
* Understand what machinery exists already globally in this space and is able to be procured.
2. Design mechanical recycling process for fibre to fibre recycling utilising the existing machinery available globally.
* Note: F2F recycling is very broad, I imagine their research will narrow down the scope of this work for eg we may focus on recycling process for only one type of input fabric. Deliverable:
1. Creating a report to capture all the research, the designs, highlighting next steps needed and any additional commentary
2. If time, iterate on their research in one of two ways:
* Optimising the machinery for efficiency, and sustainability factors.
* Create new designs for other types of input fabric or output yarn

You discussed this with the University and they have some doubts about the project and did not yet agree on the position.

Both you and Floris decided to do the internship anyway, as for the both of you it seemed good to get some international work experience and you both liked the company. We can quote the following email:

We started with your formal agreement, the document you have shared with us, and the company had signed these for the both of you and also discussed a final start date.

A week before starting you both decided to not go through with the internship and cancel the agreement, which formally had been accepted by all parties. The company was also expecting both of you!

After talking to each other we as Abroad Internships had decided to deduct the final payment, which you do not mention in your review, but did not agree on refunding your application fee as the internship was already finalised. This is also stated in our terms and condition which we share with you in different variations before you apply.

We also have the feeling that you, as a professional young student can relate to this and also understand why this was the outcome. If not, we hope you will in the future.
For now we wish you all the best!

They have been very supportive throughout the whole process! I wasn't interested in the first internship offer they provided, so they kept searching. Shortly after they got me in contact with a company in Valencia, Spain, where I am currently doing my internship. Abroad Internships were very supportive during the interview stages with the company and made sure to answer any questions I had.

Even now after I have started, they keep checking in on me to make sure everything is as it should be, which I very much appreciate.

I am very happy with the company that they helped me find. The company is allowing me to grow as a person and develop my skills.
