Runway changed a paid feature during my active subscription

I am an active Runway Max subscriber using the platform for an ongoing film production.

My issue is not simply the price. My issue is that Runway changed access to an important feature during an active paid subscription.

When I subscribed, creating a custom voice from a text description was available in my workflow for a relatively small credit cost. During the same subscription period, this option was changed and now redirects me to upgrade to a Team plan that requires a much higher monthly payment.

For a professional user, this is a serious problem. A subscription decision is based on the features available at the time of payment. If a company wants to change pricing or feature access, I believe those changes should apply to new subscriptions or at renewal, not in the middle of an already paid subscription period.

This kind of change makes it very difficult to trust the platform for long-term production work, especially when voice continuity is important across an ongoing project.

Runway has powerful tools, but changing paid access conditions during an active subscription damages confidence in the service.

Runway is NOT worth it

Runway is NOT worth it. It couldn't even remove a simple item from a video clip and then they refused to give me a refund even though I barely used any credits

Runway is not a product ready for the market, waste of money. They burn so many credits just trying to do the first test that you can't iterate. I requested a refund because their app used almost an entire month of credits on one image prompt and it wasn't complex. They said no. I've reported this to my credit card company and will report to the better business bureau as well. Tell your leadership and product team what they pushed out to the market is unethical.

Don’t Waste Your Time or Money.

Like many other people complaining here, I paid for a subscription and then purchased additional credits to generate a simple video using a clear and detailed prompt (I’m experienced with AI tools). The model repeatedly struggled to generate it and failed over and over again. Each attempt costs a significant number of credits. Sometimes the credits are refunded when the generation fails; sometimes they aren’t, even when the model is clearly the reason for the failure. After spending around four hours and $45 trying to generate one simple video, this feels like a complete waste of time and money. The way the credit system works when the model repeatedly fails honestly feels like a scam.I also tried to resolve the issue with customer support, but they were completely unhelpful.

Why didn’t I read the reviews first !! Do not waste your money. Did a 26 second video that used all my first month credits. Was specific about what I wanted and did not deliver. To fix it I’d need to spend another $50 and more. Rubbish

Shitty service

Shitty service. It generates poor-quality videos, so you have to retry many times to get a usable result. It also very often refuses to accept an attached image as a reference, even when the image and the request are completely legal.

Don't waste your Time and Money look elsewhere!

I signed up specifically to animate an image. Instead of being able to simply create the video, I was repeatedly told to “tighten up” or adjust the image before I could get the result I wanted. Every attempt cost credits.

The problem is that those adjustments repeatedly made the image worse, not better. I would spend more credits trying to correct the previous result, only to have another problem introduced. Then I had to spend more credits trying to fix that problem.

At some point, I realized I had spent my money chasing problems created by the service itself.

The end result?

My credits are gone. My money is gone. And I have nothing usable to show for it.

I'm pissed because the system repeatedly required additional generations and consumed paid credits while failing to produce something usable.

I would have been much more understanding if the service had produced something usable after those attempts. Instead, I ended up exactly where I started, except with less money and no usable video.

Runway SUCKS!

took subscription, specifically requested creation of images using Gen-4 Turbo. System used the much heavier seedance and used all credits for the month for 4 low quality images. Dont fall for this trap. Getting a freelancer ding it is cheaper than using runway

This platform has been an expensive and…

This platform has been an expensive and deeply frustrating experience. I paid for membership and used the Agent to create an eight-minute music video. I had already prepared the images, storyline and detailed instructions, yet the Agent repeatedly failed to follow them.

It introduced appearances and images I had not supplied, changed our body sizes, produced incorrect scenes and separated clips belonging to the same music video into different productions instead of keeping everything together. I was then repeatedly asked to spend more credits correcting content that was wrong through no fault of mine.

I contacted support and explained that I was not seeking a refund—I wanted the mistakes corrected without being charged again. However, support does not operate properly over weekends, and the response was essentially that completed generations are non-refundable and I should purchase more credits.

A video that should have taken a few hours to assemble has taken days, cost a substantial amount of money and remains unfinished, delaying my planned release. Although some of the content produced was good, the repeated failures and charges have completely undermined the experience. Unless Runway corrects these issues and stops charging customers to fix platform-generated mistakes, I could not recommend it.

Ultra-expensive shit

The video editing feature is a scam. Even the simplest and clearest prompts are completely ignored. You always get the same original video back with no modifications whatsoever, while your credits disappear at lightning speed.

Don’t fall into the trap. Don’t even waste your time trying this app.

Scammy business practises

Scammy business practises. Non transparent.

Should be completely avoided. They will promise you unlimited generation. Then take the plan away.

Then they will give you option to queue 2 requests which would be processed in parallel. But then they will limit it to just one request without any prior information.

They just suck big time.

Don't spend money on Runway

The marketing of what the Runway Agent can do and what it actually does is a start disconnect. Runway and it's credit system is a rip off. Their AI does not follow instructions at all. I ran into the issue where I specifically told it to grab a frame at a specific second and it told me it go it. Then I asked what was the second and millisecond the frame that it grabbed. It confidently listed the wrong time that I did not ask from it to grab.

They stole hundreds from me.

They literally stole $200 from me.
I bought extra credits. Payment went through. Did not get the credits. Credits came hours later, after I had already moved to another service. Absolutely no customer service. No refund. In my entire life, i have never seen such an insane issue on any site.

⭐ Very disappointing experience

⭐ Very disappointing experience – over £100 wasted

I had a very disappointing experience with Runway.

I signed up specifically to create animated content using consistent characters and ended up spending over £100 between the subscription and additional credits.

The biggest problem was that the generated videos were simply not usable for my project. I was trying to maintain consistent characters across scenes, but despite providing reference images and repeatedly adjusting prompts and settings, the results were extremely inconsistent.

Unfortunately, every attempt uses credits, so I ended up using a significant amount simply trying to get the platform to produce something usable. I purchased additional credits because I genuinely thought that with further testing and adjustments I would eventually get the results I needed.

When it became clear that the platform wasn't suitable, I contacted Runway and explained the situation. My refund request was refused because I had used all of the credits.

I understand that companies have refund policies, but this was particularly frustrating because the credits were used trying to get the service to work properly for my project. I asked whether they could at least consider a discretionary or partial refund given how much I had spent in such a short period, but this was also refused.

For me, over £100 was essentially spent discovering that the product couldn't produce the results I needed.

My advice to anyone considering Runway would be to be extremely careful about purchasing additional credits until you have thoroughly tested whether it can actually handle your particular use case. AI video generation involves a lot of trial and error, and unsuccessful generations can consume your credits very quickly.

Unfortunately, based on both the quality of the results I received and how my refund request was handled, I wouldn't use Runway again and wouldn't recommend for anyone else.
